Am wondering if it would be possible to plug my Tascam (4 track) into my PC then use some form of software to increase the amount of tracks available?(ie feed in 4 at a time).
If so , what sort of software is available and is it possible to hear playback in Sync when adding more tracks to the tape?

Cool Edit Pro, Vegas from Sonic Foundry, CakeWalk 9(if you do any sequencing) to name just a few.

This leads me to a question, since i do virtually NO HD recording (cleaning up stereo tracks is all I've ever used it for, in producing Mp3's and RA versions of my songs.

If you do input 4 tracks at a time from tape-how do you get the tracks to line up as far as timing?

Just wondering, as if you had an analog 8 track-but only 4 inptus to the PC.
How would you get the other 4 tracks to be in synch when you put them into the pc as well, if you wanted to preserve the original tracks.
Just wondering if this is even possible.

Or is this even possible?

Thanks,
Tim

Here's two suggestion to get around this:

a: Always play the tracks from the beginning of the tape.

b: Record a sound with a sharp transient before the start of the song ie a snare and then line up the snare hits on the PC. This only works if you use software that displays waveforms ie nearly all. Just zoom in and line em up.

Neither of these will work if your 4/8-track won't guarantee the same speed of playback every time.

G'luck
