I want to buy a 4 channel mackie mixer and a shure 57 or 58. im doing vocals. i record on my computer, now i want to know is, i connect the mic(s) to the mixer, then is there an output to connect it to the computer and then record like i do know with cool edit and my radioshack mic? if there is... do i open up cool edit, start recording like i usual do and it will work with the mixer? also can i connect midi devices to it?

thanks a lot.

if you are just doing vocals, a Mackie mixer may be much....what else will u be recording?.....

thanks c7sus...

Gidge

i do vocals, but id like the option to record guitar and i have a keyboard/piano (Roland ep-7II) i would like to also input.

"One way is to plug your mic into a channel strip and use the insert out to your soundcard." - c7sus

do i plug the mixer into my mic input or "line in" (forgive me im new at this) and if i plug it into line in, will/how do i get cool edit to recognize it?

i was assuming a 4 channel existed if it doesnt what do u suggest? i dont need many inputs. also do mackie's act as a pre amp for a mic,..im leaning towards the sm-57

thanks a lot , appreciate it.

Gota love Behringer... unless your Mackie of course. You might want to check out my post on this board 'getting the most out of my Behringer mixer' for ideas, if your interested in what another recording newbie is doing with his Behri. I think I am squeezing just about the most bang for my 70 bucks outa my mixer...

do you know anything about the UB 1202? which 'out' do i use to connect to line in on my sound card? "main out" , "tape out" , or "CTRL room out"

thanks

$70 american im assuming?

Word_Play:
I am using tape out to my sound card, main out to my monitors and ctrl room out is unused.
Aux1 send goes to my monitors when recording, you can see what I mean in my other post.
Oh and yeah, 70$ US. I have an 8 channel though, not a 12.

TexRoadkill: That hurts man, it really does.

whats the difference between the MX series and the UB series?

UB vs MX

According to Behringer, the new IMP invisible mic preamps in the UB series are upgraded. In a side by side with an old mx and a new UB, it seemed like you get less hiss noise out of the UB pres when the gain is cranked up. More or less they seemed about the same though, just a little quieter on the UB.

One other thing is that the Virtualizer effects are available in UB "FX" model boards for a few extra bucks, which I think is worth it for live sound (but prolly not clean enough for any recording applications).

Is the sound quality bad- guess that depends what bad means to you. It's better than my old radio shack mic mixer! I've tracked drums through my ub1622fx pro, and it sounded a-aight to me (not great, but a-aight), but hey I'm a newby and I don't own anything made by Neve yet.

Word on the board is that some people think Mackie is waaaay better, some think it sounds just the same. Buy it at a store where you can take it back if you don't like it. I ended up keepin mine.
