hey guyz,
i'm looking for a 388 for some time now (in holland) and I would like to know if the manual can be find online so that when I find one I know how to operate the machine. I've been working with an 244 for some time now, and although i love it, i need an upgrade...cheers

There are not any online that I know of. I ended up having to get mine from tascam. If I remeber right they are about 25.00. plus shipping.
Its worth getting one though the 388 has a lot to figure out that may be a little tough to get on your own.

388??

I want an analog set up, and was thinking about going with a 238 or a 688 so that I could just use cassettes, but a friend suggested I just go ahead and buy a 388 since they're all about the same price. He said it would sound way better. Anyone else with suggestions?

willslack, a 388 works like a big portastudio, but has far more dynamic range and impact than a cassette multitrack. 1/2" 8 tracks like the 38 or TSR-8 would be a step up in sound quality but your tape costs multiply x4 per reel (or more). Main problems with the 388 are size (big), weight (hefty), it's portable but not easy to cart around, and repairs can be very costly. 388's have very loyal users. It's a cool machine. I'm very attached to mine.

388 Zijn zeer goed.

I've heard some great quality music made with that machine. It can use a wide range of tape, so no problem finding that in the foreseeable future.

As you've been working with the 244, the 388 will come fairly easy to you.

Sorry, no manual on-line that I know of. Tascam should still have them.

If you're talking even-money for either the 238, 688 or 388,...

then by far your best hifi value is in the 388.;)
