I have several 32kHz/12 bit DAT tapes I wish to transfer to CD. I'm using the S/PDIF output, and sending it to my SoundBlaster Live Platnum card digital input. Should I transfer the files to my Hard drive at 32kHZ/16 bit, and then convert them to 44.1? Or should I record them at 44.1kHZ the first time I send them to the card? Is there an advantage of one over the other? I'll subsequently be applying a declicker to the tracks.

Thanks...

Hmmmmm....In digital, the highest frequency you can record is half the sampling rate. So, with 32kHz, you can record up to 16kHz. With 44.1kHz, you can record up to 22.05kHz. Several instruments have overtones that reside above 16kHz. Not getting these overtones to tape would in effect change the sound of these instruments. I would go with mixing to 44.1.
