I'm aware of the "rip" sound during the intro

What are you people hearing?

Listened to the first track just now. Love the tone of the vox. Big sounding, like the "raspiness". You know I'm the not the most experienced one here, but I can say that I truly enjoyed it. Reminds me of something I'd hear while watching "Inside Llewyn Davis".

I think you've captured the dude's voice well. It sounds like a pretty big verb on there, but for this mellow track with little else to fill up space I think it works and sounds pretty good to me.

Not wild about the guitar sound. It's tough because it sounds slightly out of tune and the playing is all over the place, and I'm not 100% sure what you have to work with sound-wise there. I was just hearing some lo mid resonance in the guitar sound somewhere that I'd try to cut maybe? Sorry, that's all I got. :)

The first two songs - at least the bad fret buzz (from thumb overdriving) was absent, but it was back for the 3rd song. Are you recording this with one mic? The guy's voice is good, but uncontrolled, so you really need to automate the volume on it. Again I noticed more reverb on the vocal than the guitar, so maybe its the room's sound if its all one mic?

Its 3 mics mostly.
I'm not to sure I want to automate the vocal tbh. I like the very dynamic thing its got going right now.

Thanks foristening

It's too dynamic - I had to turn down the speaker volume when the vocal went way up, then I couldn't hear the guitar - like at 1:22 in the first one.

Good shit Maynard! I dig this kind raw live recording and trying to get the same kind of game going on myself...

He's really pretty good... he should take a stab at some old Cat Stevens way his style...

I would say from what I heard that the dynamics of the vocals do need to be tamed a bit. I am sure you know how to do this. Was the vocal recorded separate from the guitar track? If it was it might benefit from doing the vocal sections on different tracks. This would be especially helpful on the louder vocal sections of the song. Interesting stuff and different from what I have heard you normally do. Nice go mate.

I listened to all three and I am getting various degrees of the same thoughts for each one.

- Playing is overly loose
- Vocal dynamics are all over the place both with the song overall and within very short phrases
- Vocal tone is good and seems captured well
- Vocal performance has pitch problems in some places
- Guitar dull and muffled
- Guitar is buzzy and with sharp resonant bursts sometimes
- Guitar out of tune or chords are being missed a bit (suspect the latter)

From what I am hearing, and in my opinion, there is certainly good potential here, but there are playing and pitch problems right now that override any sort of mixing considerations.
