A song Pete the drummer wrote. I added guitars to it. The end part is from another song I'm dabbling with, but it seemed to fit.

Might be bass heavy. Pete on drums/bass, me on guitars.

It's an odd one. It has lyrics, but they are not down yet. I turned it into an instrumental, in the meantime.

Four Thumbs UP!!!

Wow! This rocks pretty hard. Both the guitars and the drums really kick ass. The guitars sound very Al DiMeola and the Drums Terry Bozzio a la UK.

have you written it out at all in MIDI score format?

Hey thanks for checking it out!

No midi score yet. Put the drums down late last night, and the guitars today.

Yeah, I ripped off the DiMeola stuff bigtime. Couldn't think of anything else to play. hehe :)

very sick tune! I imagine it would be cool with vocals as well, but it sounded real good just like this... both the guitar and the drums were quite good indeed!

Nice tune and sound...maybe the bass sound wasn't the greatest, but the tune was so cool it didn't matter really...That change at 1:30 was totally cool.....then the solo that followed..............sick.

I second the thumbs up!

>Couldn't think of anything else to play. hehe

Nothing to be ashamed of if you can pull it off and you DID.

what did you do with the guitar sound? mixed 2 takes? doubled 1 take and delay one? or just the processor you used?

I have to say, this is one of the very few tunes that I actually finish listening, and more than once also. This is also one of the very few songs I hear on this board that doesn't use the major/minor scales/chords only. I love this song

Although the bass isn't bassy enough to my taste, it still holds its style.

Do you mind sharing what mics and processor you used on the acoustic/electric guitars? they sound really good.

Heavens to DiMeola!. Indeed that's an intense lead break at 1:30.
The rest sounds so smooth. I like it the way it sits.

Very impressive... I had to listen to the song twice. I was listening to the playing so much I did listen to the mix. Very nice. Loved the metering in this song! Well thought out.

The mix was great, the only thing I can say is that I feel the bass guitar should have popped out a tad bit more, but it was great listening...

B.SABBATH: Thanks for the listen. 'Sick' means it's ok right? :) Yeah the bass needs something for sure.

A1A2: The acoustics were a takamine direct into a Art tube mp into a delta 1010. EQ was on the preamp on the acoustic. It's a hissy guitar and you can probably here it at the end part. The electrics were a washburn into a Pod into a delta 1010. The acoustics were doubled as are the electrics. Slight delay on both electric tracks, reverb on one. Glad you like it!

Trackrat: Thanks for listening to it!

vicevursa: There is something about the bass. In certain areas it needs to be tamed somewhat. I thought it was way too loud here, but seems not so. Appreciate the feedback.

Nice clean mix. Great tune.

So is he a drummer that plays bass, or a bassist, that can play drums?

Emeric:

Listened to your tune again, man, the electric gtr sounds so good. I have a Pod Pro, but I haven't had a chance to really try out dif things on it. Would you remember what settings you used on your Pod and share with us?

Wow, awesome. But then again I'm a sucker for anything not 4/4 with killer transitions - esp the ones at 1:36 and 3:19. Nice playing. That first riff might sound cool if you played 4 measures instead of 5, cut out that last measure of drums and come right back in. Just a thought.

Hey Twist, he's a drummer who happens to play bass. Drums are his primary instrument though. Thanks for checking it out.

A1A2: I don't remember what the amp speaker combo was. The delay was from the pod, and I used the pod compression at around 3:1. The lead was someother patch. I just pick from some presets I downloaded somewhere and tweak them to suit the song. I can email you the presets if you like, I assume they are pod pro compatable. As well I use the sound diver thing that allows better control of the parameters.

gnarled: Thanks for the listen. You know, there is a bass line melody intro thing along with the drum fill at the start. I must of had that channel down when I exported the mix... very strange. Oh well. Yeah I like playing in stuff outside the 4/4 realm as well, great change of thought. I sometimes find 4/4 harder to play in then odd time signatures for whatever reason. Thanks again.

Emeric, sick means 'exceptionally good'..:D  A word I don't use too often to describe tunes... Unless I'm describing my own tunes....then when I say sick, I mean not good..:D

that kick drum sure moves some air...eh? sounds good...

after hearing all the Dimeola references, I was expecting mind boggling, blazing, palm muted, guitar riffs up the ying yang...but alas...not there...with the exception of the one at 2 mins....a shortie..and a tad low in volume, to boot. The rest of the tune is very nice, but appears to be a backdrop for something more front and center....either your lyrics (set aside for now), or more of the gtr riffing, which would be MY preference. Nice bass sound. Do you own a fretless? (hint, hint)

yeah... nice drum sound and 'crying' gtr textures.

Sounds great. Drums sound huge. Whats your secret ?

BTW
the guitar was nice and tasty, wish there was more.

Emeric,

That's really great!! Sounds like you had great fun recording this one, or pulled your hair out, one of the two.

You and your drummer friend seem to be very tight. Sounds like a bass playing drummer ain't a bad way to go.

Great work!!

B.SABBATH: Good to know!

mixmkr: Thanks for the feedback. The Dimeola reference is pretty brief isnt it?

"I was expecting mind boggling, blazing, palm muted, guitar riffs up the ying yang...but alas...not there"

heheh. Well, I'll see how the song evolves, maybe I'll add more to it along those lines. No fretless here. I know what you mean though, I would like a more Jaco like sound to the bass. I added a bit of flange to give it some of that feel, but it aint the same.

purpleguitar: No secret here. I do think a lot of it has to do with the player though. When ever I try and play drums, the kick always sounds wrong (among other things). I don't have the attack down properly or dynamics. Fairly standard mic setup, spaced overheads, kick, tom, floor, snare miced. They are mixed fairly loud, but that is personal preference.

GT: Yeah there are advantages to bass playing drummers. They are able to remember what they played and lock in better. Speculation.

A1A2: On their way.

wow. I don't know what to say. I generally don't like this type of music becaue it tends to go right over my head. I have a few friends in prog rock bands and I'm never able to understand what they see in it, it seems so unnatural. It's like you just start to get into a groove and then you pull the rug out from underneath it. However the more I listen to it, the more it sucks me in. I guess recognizing the melody helps to tak ethe edge off of the drastic changes. I have to admit that's how I felt about this song. That is up until 2:33. Something just clicked there and I was like WOW! It all became so clear and I was enlightened at the dawn of a new day! I was humbled in the beauty... Then came 3:17 and I fell off again. That may just be my simple mind playing tricks on me, I don't know. Don't mind me, there are obviously plenty of other people around here with a lot more talent and class then me, and it's an obvious hit with them. I can recognize some serious musicianship to be able to play something of this complexity THAT well. So you go. But maybe some time, some day you could write a whole song that sounded like what you were doing from 2:33 - 3:17? Man I loved that shit!:D
