Hello all, I've got 3 20bit laylas I used to use, without a hitch..after storing the gear for 2years, I hooked it up and everything went wacky (don't ask). Today I removed everything and installed 2 laylas, one at a time, loaded drivers one at a time, and it works flawlessly. Previously when i did this I got the same results. BUT when I install the 3rd layla, it gets screwy, laylas backwards, lock ups, clicks, stutters, lots of resets etc. Anyone out there got any ideas?
Thanks

Hi there
No specific ideas, but thought I'd throw these out:
Are you using the same system you used earlier or is it a new OS?
Made any upgrades or system installs between when it used to work and now?
Do you need to synchronise the clocks of each device via software or cable?

...just located this in the Layla manual:
Word Clock
Next to the S/PDIF ports are the Word Clock connectors. These connectors
allow you to synchronize one Layla to another Layla or to other digital
audio devices.

Make sure they are all connected and one is set as the master clock device.

If one was set up as the master previously, it could be that, when put in the wrong order, their clocks are now all out of whack.

Hope its an easy fix.

layla

Yup, using the superclock setting with bnc cables. same os. no new devices. can you think of anything else?

From what I can remember of word-clocking the last unit in the chain needs to be terminated (same as SCSI)
This may be a software-set termination or a switch on the unit itself or a terminator plug on the word clock output of the last unit in the chain.
Maybe some of the cables have been damaged during their time coiled up in one direction (just a stab in the dark) and aren't transferring the clock accurately anymore?
That's about it for my brain :)
Hopefully someone more word-clock experienced than I can jump in and offer more suggestions to help you get up and running again.

Layla line up channel 24 to channel 1

Hello, I'm back! I'm trying to revisit this strange quirk of my laylas, as said above I've got 3laylas I'm trying to use, the Echo ASIO drivers and AA3, BUT when I do, instead of being layla 1, channel 1-8, layla 2, 9-16, layla 3, 17-24, it's layla 3, 1-8, layla 2, 9-16, and layla 1, 17-24! Got it? It's a little confusing..so hang in there.
NOW when I use AA3's audition sound, I can line the laylas up anyway I want to, which is what I'm doing now. It DOES work but, I'm still going crazy wondering why the ASIO drivers are backwards.
Now, don't tell me to install one layla at a time etc, etc, as I've already done that numerous times.
Oh yeah, get this, I installed 2 cards one at a time, and they lined up like they were supposed to L-1 channel 1-8, L-2, 9-16, BUT when I installed the 3rd layla, everything turned around like I said above...Okay now I tried installing 2 laylas 1 at a time and everything lined up L-1 channel 1-8, L-2, 9-16. Great! called it a day turned everything off, came back the next day, and guess what? everything turned backwards again.
Keep in mind I used this same setup for 10years or more before I tore it down and stored it for 2 years before setting up THE EXACT SAME GEAR, THE EXACT SAME WAY!
I'll give a reward for anybody that can come up with something I haven't allready tried.
