Here's my 2nd song put on BBS. A little long, but fun. A bluezy little number that happened one nite after all had gone except me on guitar and my bud Watson on fiddle. It turned out so good that I put bass and mandolin on it the next nite. I'll say up front that this is recorded with my 424mkIII and 2 sm57s direct into the inputs. No tweaking except what the Tascam will do.
Have fun, it's called Jamming.

hey dtb,

nowhere seems to be offline right now, but I will hear this song later...

very cool jam:cool:

I like the spirit of this.....maybe the mandolin gets a bit 'hot' at times...(I think) but not always.....I like the way these instruments sound together.....considering this started as a jam, and then you added stuff, it maintains that 'feel' that may not have been captured if recorded the traditional way.....I like it...... this was very, very cool dtb......no doubt.

I'm listening to your other tune right now.. the 'BBS' song...I really like that song too....I like your voice on it.....although it gets a bit loud at times...I really like your voice....especially the way you sang my line:D ......and also the way you sang ' pass me the whisky' your voice sounds real good to me there......I like the melody you chose....

nice job!

Thanks Mr. Sabbath,
I have a lot of fun doing these things. I'm not as serious as some of you dudes. Me and my buds just try and have a little fun, hoist a few, burn a few, and record everything. I then try and give all this a listen, and sometimes, get a little bonus by finding a jam, or a song, that we get all the way through. Then I spend my free time playing around with bass and other stuff, trying to make enought for a mix. Good hobby. For a bunch of old farts that know 3 chords. he he he
Thanks again,
dtb

 thats probably why there's such an enjoyable looseness about it:cool:

Is looseness a word?? :D

my "good" comments will be that you have a great attitude about what you're doing, seem to know your direction and limits, admit your an old fart!:D, and seem to capture the vibe fairly decently.

I know we wish we could all be incredible at our instruments, but you've reached a level to have a lot of fun with what you are doing, and can make some decent musical statements, but admittedly aren't "blowing the barn doors off' with "spontaneous licks to die for." Some of the playing/riffs, may be a bit cliche, but they at least set a mood.

I'll hoist one, for your efforts.

I feel kinda loose. Or is that lose change. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Loose as a goose. Yeah, that's the ticket. Get loose, and turn it loose. You know what would be cool? To have enought money to pay someone to record everything you do. Some of the best stuff is off the cuff. Loose. Yeah, loose. I normally will run a 90 min. tape on a Wed. nite session. Then it's mess around time. That's the recording I'm trying to get. But the guys keep catching me pushing some stupid little buttons and they clam up like a bunch of pussies. Yeah, they know it too. Clam city.

Next song will be only me. he he he he

The mood of the mix definitly lends and imagery of "Jamming". Was that intro with the tune/warm up as naturally flowing into the song as it sounds or did you "kick the mule till she walked right?" If it was just as it is on the posted song, then that was a cool and spontanious moment. I love when I get ambient little bonuses while the red light is on. Nice song. Where's the drunken improv vocals?

Theron.

yeah, kinda just started out and ended up. he he he
jamming is jamming.
you will find one thing here about me and my music: I don't sing.

Right. How about the "BBS Song"? Has it debuted? I know it's on NWR.

Hey y'all, go listen to dtb's "BBS Song", on NWR, under "Dan Thompson Band". dtb does sing!

;)

Pass the mason jar, this is the most redneck, cracker Virginian recording I've ever heard. :D

Nah, seriously, this is fun. Is that a real stand-up bass and if so, can you mail it to me? I'd like to use it on a couple of songs.

Getting ready to check out the BBS tune... more constructive criticisms to follow. :p

OK, honestly, when I said "pass the mason jar" I didn't know the lines in the BBS tune... HAHAHA so many folks on this board think alike. :D A nice, structured tune, alot different than the jam session. I was really hoping that the line "when you feel the burn.." was gonna end up with something like "...that happens when you pee..." I guess I'll have to get in on the next lyrical collaboration.

Dude, you need to put some of your hardcore bluegrass up.

dtb,
I don't think enough of the lyric contributors have heard the BBS tune yet.....it is very good indeed.

dtb...very niiiice....

I love the open feel of this jam...the overdubs retained the feel and it sounds great! Great mandolin work...

yeah, guys,
I paid a little $ to Waldo to get some more space. It says it takes a few days to get right. So when I can I'll try some bluegrass. It will be good laugh. I would delete some shit but it takes so long to upload it is cheaper to pay the man. he he he he

Wonder if he thought of that? It's a conspiracy. Give me my $ back. I'll take my sm57 and go somewhere else.

Just kidding.

Thanks sonny,
I was typing while you were posting. Mandolin is my 1st love. And it's funny how things go. One of the dudes I play with was a banjo man. He played the banjo real well and then about 2 years ago he up and bought a VERY fine mandolin( I think he got some kind of extreme deal). I have been playing mando with these guys for like 25 years and am really guite functional with the instrument. Well now I'm playing acoustic guitar and loving the hell out of it and even bought a new HD-28 about a year ago. I still love to get my hands on the mando every now and then.

sonny,
there's some more mando a little down the forum. mixed with some electric.
