Winner chicken dinner!
I actually ended up only being able to afford 2.5k and not 3k like my last thread stated. I called up Dan aka soundpure and he recommended some stuff for me and I ended up getting a new pair of monitors, converters, and a few mics. I will buy from them in the future, he was a very nice and informative. I still have 500 left, anything you think could help my current set up for that much? Here is what I gots, if you must I guess list anything up to 1,000 as I can sell my wharfedales and probably save a little more. Take your best shot, here is what I currently have:

Presonus Firepod
Chandler TG2
DMP3
Soundelux U195
Dynaudio bm5a's
Wharfedale diamond 8.2a's
2x MD 421
SM57
Sennheiser e609
RME ADI-2 converters
Studio Projects C4's
AKG D112

I record in untreated rooms but that is the way it has to be for now as my housing isn't permanent while i'm going to school. In the future that will be a huge priority though :).

PS. Used is okay too!

that looks like a pretty awesome little home studio setup right there. i'm jealous at least

Or you could donate to someone working with a tenth of your collection and hope good Kharma pays off after school :p

Sounds like a very nice setup and I second the recomendation for Dan/Dot at Soundpure. Exceptionally helpful, very novice friendly but experienced enough with using all the top shelf stuff as well to be validated.

Honest as heck too if he thinks your money would be better spent on something he does not sell he would not hesitate to recomend it and pass on the commission.

Do you need a way to switch between the two sets of monitors, or just make monitoring from the computer easier in general? If so, I'd suggest the Presonus Central Station, one of the more useful little items I have in my studio.

On the other hand, do you really need two sets of monitors? Dynaudio's are great monitors. You might want to think about dumping the Wharfdale's and just getting a sub for the BM5a's. It doesn't have to be a Dynaudio sub, you could get almost any decent powered sub that has a volume control and crossover frequency control.

You could maybe use a channel or two of compression for use with unruly bass players or vocalists. There's no question you are pretty heavy on mics given the size of your setup, so I don't think you need any more for the time being.

As far as mixing, that UAD card would be a good suggestion, assuming you are mixing in software.

I get the same functionality for a lot less ching out of the Samson C-Control. It has three pairs of ins and outs, is sonically transparent and, most useful of all IMHO, it has a mono button which will let you hear your mixes in glorious mono to better detect phase problems at every stage of mixdown.

Ditto on the C-control at $99 you still have $400 for other little things like an RNC.

The UAD studio is looking VERY tempting now that I have other stuff in place.
A couple Q's though.....

1. Is it compatible with Adobe Audition 1.5? I'm going to get Cubase this fall when I'm back in school and can get the student discount as well as hopefully convince my mommy that I "need it for school" :D . If I can't use it with Audition I can just hold off and get the UAD at some later date.

2. If I'm going to pay that much for it I want at least a good 3-4 years out of it. How long has it been out, and how long do you guys think until it's obsolete?

Yeah, i'm just going to sell the monitors. I don't want to have to try and make space for them and I doubt they'll really give me anything that the Dyn's won't. So theres another 200 I can get and a paycheck or 2 and I'll have enough for a UAD...

1. It works great with eer software except Protools

2: It been out for a good 3 years and will be around or a long time. You add other plugins from UAD's website. Its become a staple in most home studios and a lot of pro studios.

The UAD-1 ard is one best upgrades for your studio for the money and professional plugins help make a good recording and mix

Oh man, the studio or the ultra pak????

How necessary is the pultec pro, plate 140, and precision stuff????

What is the difference between the precision eq, the pultec, and the cambridge?

Anyone with an opinion on precision limiter vs. L2?

apples,oranges,tomatous

realy, got them all

Pultec is more of a coloring/sound shaping device, only putting it on makes a big dif.
The cambridge got tons of options very flexible , a bit colored
the pl is the most 'transparant' ,imo a bit goofy interface but ok
if you don't push it , it's effective and invisible
