OK guys....

So I'm looking at buying a 2in/2out USB mic audio interface with pre-amps around the 100 quid mark.

Recommendations please as there's SO many to choose from!

Ta!

I was NOT impressed by the M-Audio C600 (or it's 2in/2out brother the C400). M-Audio split from avid and left all us owners in the lurch with poor software implementation, let alone it's questionable quality build. The mic pre's were decent but the whole thing was just too much trouble.

I had the Lexicon I-onix U22 and it was actually quite nice, you might look for one of those.

I replaced the M-audio with a Zoom R24 ($425 US) that's an 8in/2out. LOVE IT! Great quality all-around. You might look at it's little and very capable 2in/2out brother Zoom R8 ($299 US but you can probably find a coupon and get $50 off).

Good luck!

Also, how important is sample rate? 48, 96, 192 etc?

Obviously i assume the higher the better but does it ACTUALLY make much different in terms of recording/audio quality?

Unless you're distributing digitally it really makes no difference. also, if you are using a mac I highly recommend the Mackie ONYX Blackjack. There are issues with it in windows I believe..
