You know, I never did like that song much, or that band, or the spinoff acts that followed on from it.

My impression was they oscillated between a) trying to sound oh so significant while coming up with lyrics like 25 or 6 to 4 and b) sentimentality.

What I did like about 'em was their sound. But I never buy albums because of their sound. :D

This is definitely not the correct are a to discuss this BUT - What about the Feelin' Stronger Everyday? The end of that song ROCKS

Just another good old acid-trip tune, you know. "Should I try to do some more?" indeed!

Great players, interesting tunes. Nice time capsule.

You do know what Terry Kath's last words were, don't you?

<You do know what Terry Kath's last words were, don't you?>
No. And what is '25 or 6 to 4' anyway?

His last words? "It's not loaded..."

25 or 6 to 4: LSD-25, you fly from 6pm to 4am, or so conventional wisdom went when the song was written. That's the semi-official story, anyway. And it was the title of a tune by the Chicago Transit Authority, later known simply as "Chicago".

Chicago took acid? What went wrong? Didn't they take enough? :D

The song idea came somewhere between 25 or 26 minutes to 4:00am in the morning. I'm not sure, where I read this, but I it was mentioned in a Chicago bio years ago.
Great Rockin' song.

Waiting for the break of day
Searching for something to say (WRITER'S BLOCK)
Flashing lights against the sky
Giving up I close my eyes (TRY AND GET SOME SLEEP)

Sitting cross legged on the floor (WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE)
Twenty five or six to four (OH MY GOD....LOOK AT THE TIME)

Starin' blindly into space (NO IDEAS COMING TO ME)
Getting up to splash my face (TRYING TO WAKE UP A BIT)
Wanting just to stay awake
Wonderin' how much I can take

Should have tried to do some more (gIVE UP OR GO BACK TO BED)
Twenty five or six to four (OH MY GOD....LOOK AT THE TIME)

Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say (NOTHINGS COMING)
Waiting for the break of day

Twenty five or six to four
Twenty five or six to four

Great lyrics...simple, but effective.

Wow! I haven't thought about that song for years! Brings back lots of memories - I remember thinking that Chicago's arrangements sounded pretty cool - better actually than the songs (IMNSHO)...

Perhaps I'll look on amazon for a "greatest hits" or something - anybody got any suggestions?

- Wil

I don't know about the "BEST OF", but the initial Chicago Transit Authority album has always been the best, at least in my old eyes.

It's ashame how Terry died.....guns suck.

Get the first Chicago Greatest Hits Album.

Those lyrics could fit both interpretations by Old Guy and Skippy simultaneously.

The song and the lyrics scream amphetamine, not acid.

The frenetic pace of that tune and that guitar solo tell it all.

The morning of Day Two of a speed binge.

I definately never thought of Chicago as acid rock(or any other drug rock).Im sure that the band had experience with drugs(so did David Cassidy!)but that hardly made their music drug oriented.I always thought of them as a middle of the road band that parents would like.Kind of late sixties Pat Boone. Most of my friends(druggies) did not listen to Chicago, their fans at my school were the "straight"kids and at my school at that time there were hardly any straight kids.Chicago had very slick production though, and some of their music has stood the test of time.

Not what but why. Or more specifically Y.

Y the 25th letter of the alphabet.
Also If you go backwards from the end of the alphabet 6 letters (Z,Y,X,W,V,U then shift it in reverse 4...V,W,X............Y

It is the eternal unanswered question we all ask, encoded as 25 or 6 to 4...

WHY?!

I have done acid:D

I havent done acid since before Reagon was president.I might be getting old and my memory might be going but I dont ever remember trippin' and putting on any Chicago...
