hey, i have a 1.7 GHz, 384 MB, 40 gig Hard drive computer...
(here are the exact specs for my machine)

k heres the problem...i recently put a m-audio delta 1010 sound card into my system and i definitely see a difference, speed wise. what are the most important upgrades i need to add to my computer to make the 24bit sound card to run smoothly? normally when i record or play back about like 8 tracks, the disk percentage jumps around between 40-90%, and occasionally drops out. currently, i have about 10-11 gig of space left. now should i buy upgrade my memory to 2GB and add a bigger hard drive?

HP's are not the ideal PC's for recording purposes but will probably do. Would'nt hurt to have at least an 80gig HD (or a second HD for audio only) and minimum of 512MB of ram. 1gig would be better though.

8 tracks shouldn't be pushing a computer like that to its maximum. You're sure that the hard drive is running in DMA mode?

whats dma?

and yes, stealthtech, i as actually thinkin bout that, so you think it will help decrease the amount of dropouts?
