I changed my mind about getting an Electric guitar and decided an acoustic would serve me better. So I'm looking through a bucnh of guitars, trying a few with 5 or 6 hundred dollar price tags, ya know, kinda middle of the road stuff. Nothing really charges me up. I pulled down a Dreadnought by Alvarez and the thing just spoke to me. the action was low, but not too low, my fingers felt good on the fretboard and the tone was pretty darn sweet. The best sounding one yet. I turned over the price tag....................$219 dollars.

It was an Alvarez RD20s

I gonna have them order the cutaway acoustic electric model RD20sc for me.

In my experience (with a lot of students) the best cheap acoustics were *always* Alvarez.

A long time ago (5-6 years ;) ) my uncle took me and my father to our local guitar store to get an acoustic for us. We wanted to spend less than $500. The only one that sounded nice to him was this 200-something dollar Olympia guitar. They're made by Tacoma. The reason we took our uncle was because he's been a pro guitarist since he was a kid. He's 51 now. We snatched that guitar the instant he said it was good. I absolutely love the thing now, beats most of the acoustics I've played. Just given ya another success story. Congrats on the find!

i have the folk body version of that same guitar.... man is it amazing.

Sup VT.
My first guitar was a $200 or so Alvarez when i was 18, loved it, used to take it with me everywhere wiht no case and it got a bit beat up in a car accident. I gave it away after that, and still miss the thing.

Enjoy yours!

Vt,
If the Alvarez RD20s spoke to you I hope the RD20sc sings to you. ;)

My first acoustic was also an Alvarez. I wish I had never gotten rid of it - it was a beautiful sounding and feeling guitar.

Okay, so I ordered the RD20sc, with the electronics, it should be in tuesday. They made it clear if I don't like it, no problems, it just becomes stock. Now here's my issue......I found an RD20sc at another shop (let's call it shop "B") and I didn't like it nearly as much as the RD20s at shop "A", but I really want the electronics. Does adding the pickup change the tone that much? I would guess, now that I'm thinking about it, when you attach the electronics its going to affect how the body vibrates. I tried another acoustic/electric at shop "C" that I liked better than the RD20sc at shop "B". By the way these are all unplugged. I have yet to try any of these acoustic/electrics through an amp. My favorite guitar is still the RD20s with no electronics at shop "A". Even the Taylor 710CE I tried was hard to play .....................................The tone gave me a boner and knocked it off my lap.

Maybe I'll just forget the pickup, get the RD20s and think about an electric guitar in the future.

if the acoustic Alvarez is the one, you can get a pick-up system later. learn some playing, and then get a system. We have a 28 year old Alvarez that's a great box. I'm glad you didn't pick up my Martin at jamfest.......you could be going deep in the pockets. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I think what I'll do is ask the shop to hold the RD20 until tuesday when the one with the pickup comes in and I'll take one of the two. when/if I need a pickup, I'll have Matt at Maple Street guitar throw one in.

Becca and I already picked out about a half dozen tunes and I banged 'em out best I could on my old Epiphone FT-120. I don't think that beast has been out of it's case since high school. The action is about a half inch or higher, and it sounds like a bear being chased by a swarm of bees. We found enough dylan that only uses the 5 chords I know and played til I had blisters on my fingers, which after demo-ing guitars all afternoon was about 20 minutes. I think I need a bottle of ...............what is it? Tincture of B...something................. Benzoate maybe, to hasten the callouses

I say get the best acoustic sounding guitar. At that price, the electronics are probably sub par at best. Besides, you can always mic it or get an add on pickup for cheap that will probably sound better than a sub par piezo system.
