Hey guys another question, lets say im making a song, and i wanna save the leave the lead vocals last, can i just mix all the instruments, harmonies and all that and, export it, make a new project, import the mixed instrumental and then make the 2nd track with vocals that way i can balance the music and lead vocals, does this sound stupid?? or pointless?

You can do anything you want.

Only thing that matters is if you like the result.
No one cares HOW you did it....

Yes you can. But why would you add harmonies to a vocal that has not been tracked yet?

Usually the vocal track is the basis for the whole song and the music is, IMO, mixed around what enhances the vocal. You can write that way I suppose, but in my experience, the vocal melody should drive the whole performance. I guess it depends on the song, genre, or your particular writing style.

Do whatever works for you. That's all that really matters in the end.

Why mix down the whole thing without the vocal tracks in there? If you have conflicting EQ ranges you wont be able to modify a single instrument once you have merged them into a single track. Why not just add the vocals in with the rest of the tracks?

I would never do that. Usually, a music bed that sounds great without a vocal needs some adjustment when a huge part of the audio spectrum is suddenly taken up with a lead vocal right in the middle of the track. I usually have to make several EQ and level adjustments to the guitars and drums and bass to make a vocal sit right.

Is it a resource problem? I can't imagine why you'd want to do it that way unless your computer was choking.

What is your need of only 2 tracks? Are you limited by your inputs or do you just wanna do it to know that you can?

Yes it sounds pointless. You could skip the exporting and importing and simply do the vocals last if you want. But you won't want, you'll discover some small adjustment that you want to make in the instruments or harmonies based on how the lead vocal sits in the mix.
