Hi
I have tried and tried and then tried again to get to soundcards to work together, and now i'm beginning to wonder if it is actually possible? I have a SB live and a SB AWE-32, a sterio external mixer with no direct outs, and Cubase VST 32. I have been panning the controls on my mixer to each main out and was hoping that I could put each cable into the line in of each of the soundcards, and record 2 tracks similtaneously. Is this possible? If anyone has experience with this could they please tell me the audio setup used as well. Please understand that I have just started out and cannot afford an expensive soundcard.
Thanx

what mixer are u using?...of course you can record a stereo image with one soundblaster, the line input is stereo, unless you are using the live drive. the soundblaster is an excellent soundcard, just not great for recording audio to harddisk....

Welcome to the board

Yep, if you set one track in Cubase to record the left side of the input and the other track to record the right side and pan your instruments hard right and left (like you've been doing), it should record them onto two different tracks. And you also have to make sure that your Y-splitter (that connects your 2 cables from the mixer into the 1 input on the sound card) and the 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor is stereo and it working properly otherwise it won't work. Look on the male end of the connector and if it has 2 (black or colored) rings on the end, then it is stereo and if there is only one, then it is mono and you'll need to get a stereo adaptor.

And I'm not sure how to get the two cards to record simultaniously, I haven't been able to get my Aardvark and my Trutle Beach to record together. So maybe someone would be kind enough to let us both in on that one. :)

Hope this helps

i haven't tried to record audio with two different soundcards at the same time....i've never considered it...however, i have been able to record midi and audio simultaneously , using two different soundcards....soundblaster for midi and delta 66 for audio.

Thanx Tekker. I have checked the y splitter and it is a stereo one. Just wondering about cubase's multitrack recording, I have been selecting split and it is not recording on seperate tracks, still on only one. What could the problem be? I have spent heaps of time fiddling around with the cubase setup and sound card setup and cannot find anything. I better not spend anymore time fiddling as my mum is getting shirty about my lack of homework being completed!

I don't have Cubase so I'm not sure how to set it up there....but what about the 1/4" to 1/8" connector that connects the Y-splitter to the soundcard? Is that stereo too?
