This will probably sound like I'm loosing my mind.....I have a Santa Cruz currently (I only do amatuer home recording cuz I'm broke), and am pretty happy with it. I also have on older SB Live! card and am wondering this:

Can both cards exist on the same machine?

The reason you ask? Well, I found a cool website http:/www.sonicimplants.com which has some well done SoundFonts. They also have a few DLS format samples which will work on the Santa Cruz, but they have a better collection of SoundFonts for the SB.

I don't really want to use the SB Live only - I like the SC for the fact that Turtle Beach is still actively modifying drivers for the thing.

What do you all think (besides the obvious -which is I really am loosing my mind).

Thanks!

For a couple of years I ran two soundcards with n-track studio software. The cards have to have the same crystal or you will have mis-timing issues.Using Win98SE, having two of the same brand card meant windoze only saw one driver.I believe I have heard that using W2kpro allows you to rename the driver of the second card so that windoze sees two cards instead of just one.
What the heck, give it a shot!It worked for me.

at worst, you can do your soundfontparts with the SB, record them as wave files, and then use them with the Santa Cruz....

btw, the SC is a better sounding card than the SB so definitely do audio with it...the SB is ok for midi/soundfonts.....

Thanks. I slapped the SB Live into my machine today without a hitch on Win 2000. I did hear/read that the SC has better sonic quality than the SoundBlaster - not pro level, but good enough for the casual home recordist.

Gidge, you mentioned recording the sound fonts as .wav files - how do I go about this stuff? I planned on using Digital Orchestrator for the MIDI (I have Vegas for the multi-track audio). I also have Sound Forge 5.0 in my arsenal. Can you, or anyone recommend better MIDI software?
