hey,
i have two songs here, no vocals like the title suggests. It's my first time recording anything with more than 2 tracks. I used a fostex VF-80 and the drums were done on reason via midi keyboard. anyway...here they are. criticism is welcome, but keep in mind that i am a complete noob at home recording, and also my guitar playing is a little shaky at times...so cut me some slack. :)
thanks

Listening to "something" and I really like it.It reminds me of my younger days when musical ideas were fresh and the recording process didnt matter as much as getting the idea down on tape....this one has a dreamy feel to it.....the bass guitar and rhythm guitar are a little muddy IMHO.....might wanna roll some low mids off both of those......the rhythm guitar seems to be straight up and down in the stereo spread. It would sound a lot better panned off to one side just a little and then double the part and pan it to the other side the same amount......some compression on the rhythm guitar might help a little also...I noticed a few spots where it jumped out real loud from being strummed harder in certain sections..........the drums are what they are.LOL.......they'll do for getting ideas...the drums in the intro didnt see to work at all.

The crash at the end is a little too loud........thats about it...I dig it.

Listening to the other tune(Untitled) and it has the same problems as the first one. It's kind of muddy from everything being pretty much panned straight up and down.....pan the 2 guitars to opposite sides and it will open things up a little more and get rid of some of the mud....play around with panning and volume levels....these mixes sound like they were mixed after you've listened to them for hours.....sounds just like a mix that "burned" out ears would mix.LOL......give your ears a rest and re-mix tomorrow.

This one is a catchy little tune also.Really good ideas you've got here.

thanks. i will definitely pan some of the tracks. i layed down two rythm tracks on each song, so i guess i could just put one the the left and one to the right. i agree with you on the bass tracks though, because i dont have a bas amp so i just plugged directly into my vf-80 :( anyway, thanks for the criticism. i will definitely take it into consideration when i re-mix it tomorrow.

I encourage you, to come back to this thread and make another post here, pointing us to the re-mixes and briefing us on what changes you made and why, even if you just tell us generally.

I like to listen to the re-mixes, that's where the learning really happens.

A thread that gives us the opportunity to see the growth of the tune from feedback in the clinic is the richest thread we can ask for on this bbs.

hey...no problem. im thinking of remixing today so you can expect them posted later.
