What's the use of 2 hard drives? Why couldn't I just get one BIG hard drive for audio? Will the system run better if I have my programs on one hard drive and the audio on the other??

Yes. Keep the app/os drive as lean and clutterfree as possible. Smaller drives are faster.

And if your os fucks up or something happens to the app/os drive, your data will be untouched.

yeah I said the same thing, why not just buy one big drive. but the guys here talked me into the dual drive setup, and dammit they were right. Win98 bit the big one, so I had to reinstall Win2KPro. Now everything's great, and that same data is still unharmed.

2 Drives might be slightly more, but in the long run it's a much better choice.

and make sure to put the drives on opposite ide controllers as to avoid a bottle neck.

Sorry I didn't see this 'til this morning frank, but looks like you got your answer already :)
