Hello,
I've been in and out of bands for many, many years, but just started recording a few years ago. This is my first original, and my biggest project by far. Looking for feeback and help on the mixing (and any other aspect).
Thanks in advance!

Seriously... how to I post a link to my music? (other than make 9 more posts :))

Well, you can listen to my song and post about it nine times :-)

ok! In the meantime, if you go to soundclick.com/deadcafe you can hear my tune. It's the only one posted.

I like it. Nice, simple and has a good feel to it. Is all the instrumentation done by you?

Yes. MIDI drums, but I did all of the other instruments (except the clarinet - I had my son help with that).

Hey, that is a big sound...seemed super loud (which is neither here nor there, but I practically jumped out of my seat after checking out cello's choir!).

This is great for your first effort I think you said? I am not a blues expert by any means, liking howlin' wolf and john lee hooker and not too much beyond that era, so what I look for or expect in a blues number is probably way too specific and narrow.

I thought the guitar tone had maybe too much bite to it? I'd have prefered a rounder, warmer tone for this. Your voice sounds pretty good. It's deep and seemed a little boomy in the mix - could you cut some lower frequencies somewhere there without losing too much body?

Not a big fan of the drums myself. I think you did well programming them (I wouldn't have the patience), but at times they really sounded mechanical and too clean. Any way to mess with those tones at all to get a more human sound to them?

Again, great for a first efort. Everything I mention may really just be a matter of personal preference. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback heatmiser! Greatly appreciated!
Yeah, this is more of a rock tune than a blues tune - just kind of a bluesy progression when I started it.
I use ozone for mastering, and I think I have the exciter in the chain. May account for the loudness, but I kinda like that effect from ozone.
I think I can adjust the voice. With the first mix, there was very little low end for some reason, so I ended up boosting low end on the whole mix. I'll try eq'ing out some of the vocal low end.

I know what you mean about the drums - esp. in the chorus. I spend a long time messing with these - couldn't get the swing beat right in ableton live. I think I might have to get a real drummer to help me with that :).
