Hey All~

I came across this board looking for some Cubase answers and thought I'd post a song for review & feedback. I'm still learning the "Art" of production, so take it easy on me... ; )

I composed the song and recorded all instruments. A friend of mine wrote lyrics and did the vocals.... nothing fancy, just a simple rock song.

...any feedback or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

wow pretty good recording job. I found the lead guitar and vocals to be too watery though, almost like there is a bit too much reverb. I like how the drums sound though, they have that reverby sound to them as well, but it works for them. its the kind of song you could throw on in the car and cruise to. If you had more time, you could try and refine the lead guitar parts. Do some more takes and but the best parts together. i hear the odd missed note. The singer has a good voice, always sounds on pitch to me.

Pretty bad ass. My suggestion at this point is to encode it at a higher bitrate MP3. You are getting very bad MP3 hiss, which makes it hard to judge that aspect of the recording.

To my ears, the "watery" guitars seems to be more of a mic placement issue. It sounds as if the amp was miced with a condensor, with the mic a bit too far back. The reverb on the guitar sounds like it was piped through the amp.

A more "in-your-face" rhythm guitar sound would do the song nicely. Try close-micing the amp with an SM57, or other suitable dynamic mic, with the condensor (assuming you're using one) one foot behind. Otherwise, move the LDC in closer, or crank up the volume. Regardless, you should turn down that 'verb.

Cool song! :)

Many thanks for the complements and feedback!

I recorded all the guitar part with my Line6 POD, so nothing was mic'ed, there may have been too much reverb on the patch I chose at the time. Since I recorded most of the tracks in September, I'd have to look at my notes to see what settings I used.

The gtr solos and vocals were the only tracks I added additional reverb.... guess I got carried away?

I tend to be my own worst enemy when recording and mixing (never being quite satisfied), so it's nice to hear some unbiased opinions.

Like I said I'm still learning, especially the powers of EQ in the mix, and appreciate the feedback!
