Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here, I just started jamming with a drummer again, and we are in about a 15 ft square space in his basment. He has a full set of yamamha drums, I have a marshall 100w lead 1/2 stack and I was looking for some help on a decent but cheap PA for vocals. We also have a bass player which he has comparable gear, and in the future plan to aquire another guitarist. We Need something that is gonna be loud enough, but not cause feedback out the ying yang.

We dont plan on mic'ing anything, just using the PA for vocals. Right now we are only playing covers mostly heavy metal 80/90s metal.... metallica, iron maiden, Ozzy, black sabbath etc...

I was looking at this Phonic Powerpod 620 on muscians friend and it's got some good reviews, but you never really know because the people that are reviewing could say it's awesome and all they are using it for is public speech.

So anyways, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. just keep in mind, it is a very small space, and it's only going to be needed for jamming, not live performance at this point. looking to spend $200-$300.

Phonic PowerPod 6 channel 200w PA with 2x 12" mains for $350:

The same deal with 10" speakers is $50 less. The same deal with the 440w amp is $30 more. It's pretty cheapo, but so is your budget. I wouldn't bother with the 100w versions, cuz anything smaller will prolly not be loud enuf to hear over the band.

Also, Im not a fan of powered mixers, it costs more to upgrade later, and if the amp or the mixer pukes, you lose both. But it IS cheaper, and you prolly won't find any entire complete PA systems for less unless you find a deal on craigslist or something. If you could increase your budget to say $500, you could get a couple mains for $100 ea, a mixer for $100, and an amp for $200. If you can't then I guess the Phonic deal is as good as you can do, but I'd spend at least the extra $50 for the 12" mains.

Thanks, i'll keep this in mind, and do a little more searching :)
