This was an older Guitar MJ song that was the first project, and also my first cakewalk9 experience and the first time I tried to record on my computer, there are definite vocal problems but just wanted an opinion on the vox as far as melody,in key, song structure,etc...maybe someone has an idea on how I could get a better vocal sound from the J-Station(I know it's a guitar mod,but it's still a pre-amp),Cheers.:p

as far as helping you with the mix its hard for me because all i can do is lo fi stream because i have dial up, but i can say ive tried using the j station for voxs and no matter what i do it sounds like your singing either in a tunnel or a box, i finnally went out and bought a mackie board because of this, i got the cfx 12 and the pres in this board are great and it has built in effects as well as a awesome price of only 599.00 wright now. i havnt recorded much vocals with it but i did one song. the best presets i found on the j station for voxs is the bass guitar sounds without any speaker cabinet replication on.i think the preset i was using and had the best luck with was called modern and i turned off the cabinet ran it direct. you realy have to play around alot with it though and you will only get minimal results at least that is all i gott from it. but i will say it rocks for guitar big time. good luck i hope i helped at least a little and god bless. tim pate

listening right now...
thats a cool inro git part...yeah the "verse' vox sound ...man it doesnt sound bad at all...goddamn it my stream is skipping all over..anyway..no the melody is fucking great ?!?!...no problems there ...the whole mix to me sounds like a there isnt a "brilliance" ..??...no shimmer...lol...i dig that string part around 3:40 or so...cool. i will say on first listen the begining of the song reminded me of metallica but only briefly ...the singing is way better then that hetfeild hack!...and am i not in on the joke cause i dont know what "guitar mj" means...mojo??..

jamal...cool song.

hey WISC,

I'm checking out Something New. I was having the same skipping issue as Jamal so I downloaded it. Still heard skips at :24, :35, 1:08, 1:25, 1:39 and more later. What happened with that? Are you hearing these too?

The vocal performance is good. definitely in key and powerful. The only weaker part I heard was the higher part around :32 and :51. They seem to get a little too whispery.

The harmony vocal does sound a little distant and brittle towards the part that kicks in 1:01.

what mic did you use through the J-station? It might sound fuller with a better mic.

To be honest, if these skips are on the original, it's too annoying to keep. At least for me.

the instrument mix does sound good though.
