well now, this is the first recording on the 788. no bells and whistles. just the clear sound of the 788. acoustic guitars and a bass. I need some help on recording bass direct. maybe a little info about eq'ing. I'm not sure how tunes transfer to your systems, but I will tell everyone that the difference is amazing to my ears, how clear the 788 records. I just used a 57 thru my mixer pres, with no eq, effects, or processors. A wee bit of pan to help separate the guitars.

please enjoy, and fell free to make comments. And you bass players give me some hints on recording the bass. Oh and listen for the phone ringging around 2:45-2:55. I hate it when that happens. he he he he

shit man,
I screwed up. I think this cut is dry. No anything. I just listened to the song on the 788 and loaded it without any panning. Also the overall signal level is low. I'll get the other version on tonite and compare. But have a listen anyway to this cut, or any others there you haven't heard.

just another day in dtb's norecording head!

Maybe it's just my system, cbut the levels seem to quiet.
Besides that, great guitar playing!! With it dry it sounds natural. Can't wait for the panning, etc.

hey bm, opps, battleminnow,
you may like the correct cut. I'm downloading as I type. being new to the 788 the first version I cd'ed was without pan and level. The other cut will be a little better. But shit, man, what are we here for? To learn? he he he he

man i love the sound of a dry acoustic guitar, and when you can play it well like you do, i could listen all day long! you have a nice tone on that lead part.

may i request that you do not add any drums to this? i like hearing this kind of thing without any percussion. maybe you could add a more prominent rythmic element to the bass line?

the bass line had a lot of nice melodic things going on that i wouldn't want to lose but i think you could really define the rythm of this with the bass by accenting the tempo somewhat in that line.

levels were a bit low. but i think you know that.

thanks for the post, i'm gonna go check out your other stuff now...

Nice and quiet! Don't you just LOVE new toys? Great chops there too my friend. It's got a great beat and it's easy to dance to. I give it a 78.:D :D :D :D :D

Just listened to Level Headed Dancer. I love that song. Did you write that? Do you have a CD?

.......damn, Im lookin forward to hearing more of your stuff!! Very cool guitar work. As a fellow 788 user, one thing that ive realized with it is that it's pre's are one of its 2 faults...(the other being the lack of a digital input). Your mic'ed signal will be much better using a better pre. I just have a dbx mini-pre, and the difference is very apparent.
I am also a Bass player, and tend to run through a J-station. Ive run directly into the 788 before, but I seem to get a better signal through the J. I would be interested in the way that other's are running bass (dont mean to distract from your thread with a question of my own). :D

I'm like "its an ok piece"

then why have I listened to it over and over for the last 30 or so minutes?

Nice piece. Very relaxing and easy on the ears.

Funk on!

thanks peoples of the BBS,
he he he he

the other cut is much better with a stonger signal and a little pan. hope to have it on tonite. there's more, and as I learn my way around the 788, I'll get them on.

This machine is really nice. I'm thinking maybe 4 acoustics, the mando, bass, and some gentle water falling over some rocks.
O.K. I'll go to bed now.

bye, bye

Beautiful!

Clean,smooth,and quiet.
Really top notch playing!

What mic did you use?

Can't wait to here the Wed. nite jam on the 788!

Great stuff,

Best to you,
Pete

nice acoustic chops.

I think your getting into the bug of this recording thang. At first you'd post a tune so we could listen in and enjoy(which I certainly did!)but, you wanted no part of the mixing/better recording aspect. Now look at your ass!! How should I record my bass? Tell me about eq's. You've done got the fever!!

I always dig on your tunes. Glad you got the new toy up and running. Have fun and post as you go.

Peace,

Theron.

thanks dudes,

muzeman, just a 57 through my mixer pre, the 788 is clean and quiet, gonna try my 603s next. WNJ will be back soon. Ought to sound good thru the 788.

theron, always been into the recording thang, just never had a machine like the 788. I'm gonna enjoy pulling out old ditties and recording them again.

Yeah I really liked this one too, agree with Cyan about it being relaxing and really easy on the ears. You can tell you got skills my friend. It's really straight up good stuff! It makes me wonder why guys don't put out full albums of just acoustic harmonies, I'd like to hear this shit for an hour straight! Nice one man!

thanks laj35,
well, this is my main stuff when I'm not bluegrassing with the boys. Now with this new recorder I'll have to start over and put some stuff down. I'm picking up stuff everyday about the 788 and it's a great machine. And yes I have "full cds" of my acoustic 2-3 chord wonders, but most are not up to par recording wise to what this 788 will do. I've been using a porta3 and 424mkIII for about 5 years. The 424 is a great machine and I did get some great tunz down with it. But this 788 is phat.

thanks for the listen,

dtb

Hell yeah! Most excellent, my friend. I can tell by this tune that you are a definate head. I could smoke a few bowls and jam to this tune all night. I downloaded both & must say that I prefer cut #2 - Sounds alot like CSN&Y when they rocked, old-timer.
Nice guitar sound. I have a Yamaha that I'll trade ya even for that Martin. A good deal IMO. :D
Wait until you mic that bitch with those 603's. SWEEET!

Nice and relaxing. Although I don't dig 57's on acoustic guitars, I think the tone sounds fine with this tune.
Good job!!

ahhhhh ...

I could just kick back with a good cigar and listen to this stuff all day. You've got a great flowing style to your playing, and the recording itself was excellent! I like the sound you are getting on the 788 and I like the way you miked the guitars.

Overall this recording was excellent!

I listened to "788 Blues # 2"

Keep up the good work!

jit, the MARTIN'S mine, hands off. them's is fight'en words bro.
thanks my friend. it's the recorder and the guitar. i'm just a short in the wiring between the D chord and the A chord. he he he he he

A1A2, cool, be nice if the old Martin had a pickup thang. got great tone, eh? thanks dude.

boydrj, thanks soldier, this 788 is rather nice. It makes me wonder how good in person, some of the peoples here have it, with the REAL pro gear. It's like the difference from the Porta3 to the 424mkIII, and then the 788. man, damn, I hate all of'em.
he he he he

thanks again fellows,
