we don't need rest!!
I'm believing this to be a July/1979 FireGlo bass.

The pictures aren't quite as accurate in the color, as it is more brownish/natural and doesn't have the red in it and the "sunburst" is pretty subtle. The headstock shots shows the color best.

Any rate....is that the model year and color?

I think the Fireglow is a reddish burst so I don't believe that's Fireglow as far as the finish goes.

Nice bass man !

I bought it new years ago and played bass in two bands over the last 30 years, but it just basically sits around. I'm trying to convince myself to unload it as I'm a guitar player first and a bass player as a DISTANT 2nd. Shoot, I think my keyboard skills are better than my bass. It's just playing guitar for 45 years makes you think you can play one, because they are tuned the same.
But it is part of a pile of equipment I need to musically recirculate. IF, I really wanted another one, they're out there.... always on Ebay. right??

But, trying to get my "facts" right before I tell others what I've got.

Nice bass!!! I have a slightly older one in a solid red. I love that thing, I call it "The One True Bass."

The Ric site shows your serial number to be July '79.

A fair value to both the buyer and me. There's a lot of examples of similar sales on the internet and Ebay that I might want to be consistant with.

Btw, the guitar is in pretty decent condition. There's the one nick by the input jacks you can see, and one more (not in these pics) down by the strap button on the edge, which is on the back edge and the two liitle "dents" on the headstock edges, between the tuners on each side, which you can see if you look closely.
Otherwise, it is pretty much nick free and the back is totally free of scratches, etc.

I have a generic low cost bass gtr case, and might suggest a better case if someone was going to gig with it on a regular basis, but for around home and my previous uses, it was just fine.

What do you think it ought to sell for?

You're crazy if you sell that thing.

No, there aren't a bunch of 70's 4001's in really nice condition on Ebay. Or Craigslist.

I'm debating with that for sure, but it seems to be one of many "quasi-vintage" items I own. I have more a sentimental value, buying it brand new out of the store, than I really do, for what it is.

Over my years of being a musician I've let go of [purchased new] Arp, Moog synthesizers, rack gear, 60's Gibson and Fender guitars and amps way too many to list, not to mention mics, large format consoles, tape decks, etc.

The hard one is my Grandfather's pre war Gibson mandolin, which I don't even know how to play. Heck, I've even got my father's Eagle Scout medal from years waaaay back.

I feel sometimes it is just "stuff". But, I MOST definately understand what you're saying.
It IS georgeous enough to just hang on the wall forever. Better than any picture for sure.

I'm like you with the sentimentality outweighing the market value of any given piece. I've got some 'quasi-vintage' stuff that I can't part with either. Most of what I actively look for is stuff from my youth, valuable or (most times) not. I've always wanted a Ric 4001, either fireglo or stripped to natural maple like Paul's. I could just look at that thing forever. There is no art that appeals to me as much as a beautiful guitar, and yours is a beauty.

Fireglo is cherry red sunburst. My 77 is a fireglo, still a helluva nice bass there mah san.

Looking around I think that finish is called autumnglo. There is an amber fireglo that's a lot less red than the regular, but from pics on Google Images Autumnglo is the closest I've seen. Maybe a good thing, seems to be a lot less common than fireglo. Very pretty.
