Hi everyone,

Im currently weighing up the focusrite saffire pro 40 and the liquid 56. I done know which one i should get, the liquid pres arent something im worried about i just dont know if i need the option to record 24 channels at once (since it has to adat ports) or just 16 at once.

I also thought about the m-audio profire 2626 but the focusrite mixing program would be really helpful for me.

Thanks

It really depends on what you plan to record. If you ever plan to record a full band all at one time, 24 channels would probably be the better choice. That's not to say you can't record a full band all at one time with 16 channels, but 24 would definitely be more ideal. But if you plan to mostly record each instrument at once, the extra channels wouldn't probably get used too much.

Where are you going to be recording? Precious few home set ups have the acoustics or the space for 24 track recording--and the amount of ancillary gear you need (mics, stands, cables, headsets for monitoring, etc. etc.) goes up as does the complication of the whole thing.

FYI, I have a set up that can--in theory--do 32 simultaneous tracks but I've rarely gone above 16 (and usually less) except for occasional live stuff on location.

I would go for 24 cause I am not buying new interfaces every day so if I had to choose between 16 and 24 I'd go with 24 in case in need them in the future :)
