Am purchasing a DAW with outboard analog mixer and 16 channels of ADA. Was wondering if the RME 9652 will allow simultaneous 16 input/output, or is it limited to 24 channels total. I don't think rme's website addressed this or maybe I just missed it. Any help or other recommendations to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
 
From RME's site:
One internal ADAT input and two internal ADAT outputs allow you to realize up to 8 analog inputs and 16 analog outputs directly inside the computer.

Have you looked at the MOTU cards? I believe with the 2408 you can have up to 72 channels of i/o.
 
The RME 9652 will allow 24 channels in and 24 channels out at the same time (if your pc can follow) at 24bit 44.1 or 48. If you want to use 24/96 you are "limited" to 12 channels I/O. Connections are ADAT lightpipe.

The internal adat i/o is for the AEB range of RME cards. These are nothing more than AD or DA cards you can put in your pc and connect internally to the 9652. At that moment you lose the corresponding external ADAT i/o.
