I just screwed something up BIG TIME and have NO idea how to fix it. I had accendentally switched the default bit/sample rate size from 16 bit/44k to 24 bit/48k (and didn't change it back apparently), then I recorded a project that I'm currently working on, so the whole thing was recorded in 24 bit/48k....(now comes the problem)....I had recorded some other stuff on my other computer to go with this song in 16 bit/44k (not knowing the other project was in 24/48k) and I burned the info to a CD and loaded it onto my other computer to mix them but when I tried to paste the new tracks into the project I got this stupid message "The clipboard audio format does not match the current project format (sample rate or bit depth)".

Please tell me that there is a way around this, other than re-recording the other part because I spent pretty much all day with the mic placement other stuff trying to get everything to sound exactly perfectly right (and it's all torn down now) and I really, really want to use what I already have recorded. I tried changing the audio options back and re-saving it but it did absolutely NOTHING. Could I just mixdown/dither the 24/48k down to 16/44k so that it would allow me to import the other clips, if so how do you do it?

If anyone can help me that would be VERY much appreciated, and I would be eternally greatfull.

Why do these things have to be so friggin picky?

*Takes off shoe and thows it at the computer monitor* :D Ahhhh much better.....

Hey Tekker,

You can actually change the audio format within Cakewalk if
I,m not mistaken. Im assuming you would want to resample the 48k 24bit down to 44.1k 16..I would import then into a new Cakwalk project and then resample them..there is a change audio format command in the tool menu...i believe..Or, if you have Sound forge import them into the forge by going to Tools then Sound Forge and resample them there. Just make sure you have selected "apply dither" whichever route you go.

elbenj,

I just tried the "change audio format" option (is that what you were talking about?), I selected all the clips (in the track view) and tried it (and I had dither applied) but it dind't work. I think that this option only changes the bit depth, but the sample rate also came up in that stupid message I got, so I think I need to fix that too.

I don't have Sound Forge only Cakewalk, so if you (or anyone else) has any more ideas I'd be more than happy to hear them.

Thanx,

It won't let me paste the 24/48k clips into a new project at all, I even changed the settings so that they would match, it just won't let any clips in or out of that stupid project.

Tekker,

You are right. I just verified it. You can only change the bit
rate. Sorry......but I would be glad to do the conversion for you
if you can,t find another way to do it.....email me....just an
offer. How many tracks are we talking?

I got one more idea.....

What about downloading a demo of Sound Forge? Would the unlimited time/limited fuctions demo still have that option or would I have to download a time limited full version demo?

And if I can't get it to work with this, then I'll definitly take you up on your offer. :)

Let me know what you think.

If the Sound Forge demo (make sure it's Sound Forge 5 and not Sound Forge XP Studio 5) is crippled, try CoolEdit 2000.

Ok, got it!!

Now what do I do to import the song into CEP, I'll probably have to mixdown to .wav so I can import it into CEP, right? (This is my first time working with multiple programs like this.)

Oh no, I've only got 3 weeks, 6 days, 23 hours and 54 min to get this figured out in.

:D

I would mute all but one track, then export that track as a wav file at 16 bit, then repeat this process until each track is a 16 bit wav file on your hard drive. Create a new project and import each wav file under import audio. You would have to record the remaining portions of the project at 16 bit, but it is a small price to pay. Goes faster than you might think. gl, q

Thanx quibb

I'll give it a try and hopefully it won't take too long........:)

I also would like to know how to import from Cake into CE2000 (just to dink around with it), I imagine I would have to export each track (that I want to put into CE) to .wav but then how do I get it into CE? I haven't found an "import .wav" option yet, and being a demo I don't have a manual. I've tried looking through a few of the help files but haven't found anything yet. Other than that I really like CE and I'm thinking about buying it when my demo runs out (and at $69 it's right in my price range). :)

Thanx
