Ok,
I been building bass traps and broadband absorbers. Anyway - I got corner traps in all 4 corners, not fully floor to ceiling yet, but I have made some great improvements in the overall sound and leveling the graphs using REW.
I just finished up 3 more traps yesterday and decided to do some more testing, I was in for a nasty surprise.
I noticed a perceived peak in the 125 range so I set my tone generator to cycle around 100 - 160, at around 130 I get this major perceived boost, so I grab a mic and stick it where my head would be while mixing. I start recording the sweep and sure nuff - there is a 10 db peak, then I decide to do some experimenting.
I put on a constant 130 hz tone and decide to start moving traps around to see if i can reduce it, and I notice that there are just freaking peaks and nulls all around the room! I know this is the COMB and LBIR effects.
I used the LBIR calculator from real traps and I am about 4' (48") from the speakers. There should not be a peak at this frequency AFAICT. Anyway - I tried moving the monitors around, using just one monitor, moving the traps around, etc. And I can't get rid of this freaking spike.
One problem I have is that my monitors are right up against a wall, but even moving them 2 feet from the wall didn't help so it seems that it must be a reflection.
IDK what to do about it...
any suggestions? It's not a real big room as you can see so moving the desk is probably not an option.
This is essentially the way the studio and traps are set up
