Here's my dilemma: I am torn between purchasing a new MOTU 1224 for $600 and a lucid 96k clock (or any other respectable yet affordable brand) or a MOTU 896 for $1200. I have a mackie 1202 VLZ and a mindprint envoice so if i needed to do more than 5 mic tracks i would have to buy an maudio dmp3 for the 1224. With the 896, i get the pres, the clock, and the portability. With the 1224, I believe I get better converters (correct me if i am wrong). So basically it comes down to convenience and portability vs. sound quality (again, correct me if wrong - at least i know that the lucid 96k clock will be better than the one in the 896). So, is it worth spending the extra $200 or so for the 1224 setup?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Have you floated that balloon on the Unicornation BBS? There was a debate going on in the hardware forum as to what is the best clock and if there is any benefit to using an external clock with a single interface.

I may be wrong, but the 1224 doesnt support 96, but I would go with the 1224 anyway, and get your outboard pres instead. Just my opinion, but its a good one.
Now, be a pal and let me know where I can find a new 1224 for $600. Thats a fabulous deal and I would jump on it quickly.

tubedude, you have to go in a guitarcenter or at least call them about the 1224. i posted a heads up about this a couple a weeks ago titled fyi anyone needing a motu 1224.don't think anywhere on the web is going to quote you that price, but it is for real because i live 1/2 mile from g.c. and checked it out myself.you can even get it for $549 that's what their rep offered their last boxed stock to me for.

FB,in my humble opinion I would buy that 1224 as quick as you can forget about the clock for now and never look back. I am running a lucidad9624,motu 24i(from guitar satans last big blowout)and a 2408 all without external clock and while i will eventually get the old model(44k/48k) genx clock. My system sounds great to me as is. I was and still am sorely tempted to scarf up a 1224 but I have a gazillion inputs already. Still.....

Philly, great town.was just at TLA a few weeks ago for a Musical Box show

TLA, eh, it's funny I'm playing a show there on June 15.

Just cant find the deal I am looking for on the 1224. Someone tell me which one has the $600 or less price tag, please...
