apl said:Well, I need to put MS Office 2003 on my machine, so I have to upgrade to XP from 98SE. My 30GB HDD is about 70% full, mostly with audio files. So I have an opportuinity here to do a clean OS install by putting everything on the 120GB, formatting the 30GB, installing XP on the 30GB, and going from there.

FYI, there's also a Hitachi 80 gig at Fry's for under $40.

The only one I can think of is the possibility that you will pay FULL price and be left waiting for the rebate.... HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!apl said:Is there any reason not to buy WD1200 120GB HDD for $50?

arjoll said:The price seems good for the WD 120 GB "SE" series, they're nice drives with a 3 year warranty. Normal dealer buy is NZ$132 = US$92. A good deal (and a good way of installing things), and as long as your machine isn't old you'll have no trouble.
WD are generally good, get the three year warranty ones though. We've had a slightly higher failure rate with these than Samsungs and Seagates. Don't touch Hitachi DeathStars!
Be careful if you have an older machine - if the motherboard was manufactured before about 2000 you may find it either needs a BIOS update or won't work at all with drives over 32 GB.
