Hi,

I have an Akai 12 track digital recording machine that I use for demos. Could anyone tell me how I transfer the audio to my mac?

I have the audacity program but nothing else. How would one get the audio onto audacity to edit and turn into an mp3.

I am clearly an innocent novice, all advice would be superb.

Thanks, James.

Audacity is not really a multitrack audio app. Try Ardour or Garage Band. As for how to actually get the tracks from the device, I have no idea.

The easiest way would be a 12-track interface/professional soundcard. If you need all 12 tracks seperately. If it´s only for the conversion to mp3 and the mixing has been finished, a normal stereo (2-track) interface would be enough.

As said, do you want a stereo mix or the multitracks?

What is the model number of your akai? What outputs does it have?

Hello,

The machine is an Akai professional - DPS12

Master out red & white phone
Aux send A B Jack
Optical Out In
Midi
Out.Thru In
SCSI

In the past i usually mix 'live' as i bounce down to a wave file (using my brothers computer). I am now in France and without his aid! So I have to learn this for myself. For now i simply want to get the tracks out of the machine onto an editing program to trim the start and end etc and turn into an mp3.

Thanks for all your help.

James

What kind of mac have you?

Some of them have optical in which would be ideal for you. There'd be no loss of quality over a digital connection.

If you don't have that, then the red and white phonos can go into your mac line input, but the quality probably won't be super.

You'd need this bad boy.

Hi,

I have an ibook G4, its pretty old and I need to update, i'm hoping its good enough to perform this simple task.

I have that lead that you showed me, what program do I need to run to get a signal?

James

Audacity's fine.

Open it up, tell to to record from line in, hit record, then play your tracks from the Akai.
