Have you confirmed that the hardware still works with your old machine? Does it show up in System Profiler?

I just bought a new iMac and I installed the drivers for some of my peripherals. My scanner frequently says 'can't find the driver', all I do is close the window and try again. After I do that - the scanner works.

It's weird, but consistent. Maybe you can try something similar, I don't know why my Mac is lying to me, maybe yours is lying to you ;)

So you're using a firewire adapter or a cable?

Try the opposite of what you're using.

Hi All
Thanks for the replies. Yes, tried rebooting, relaunching to no avail. Have plugged back into old pc and it works 'fine'. Using a firewire cable, the 'new type', not seen this type before. On the Mac it doesn't show up anywhere, not recognised at all.

Are you using Logic/Logic Express as the recording software? In my case, when adding the 1082 to my Mac, I used the Logic "Control Surface" utility to add the Tascam, not the disc that came from Tascam.

If not using Logic - meaning that you're installing the Tascam manually for use with another program - then the adapter from the "old" Tascam FW port to the "new" Mac port may be causing an issue. Have you tried a different type of adapter/cable?

Including in the System Profiler app? Is the FW-1082 bus powered or are you using the external power supply?

hi
it's has an external power supply. which system profiler do you mean? sorry I am new to mac as of this week....
Cheers

It's possible that it is working and you're just not thinking along the right lines. Is it available in audio devices (Applications/utility/Audio Midi Setup?

no, i can only see the 'built in' items in the audio/midi set up box

Go to "About This Mac" in the Apple menu, then click "More Info...." That's Apple System Profiler. Click "FireWire" in ASP and see if the device shows up.

If it shows up there, it's a driver problem. See if there are any interesting things in your system log (go to Applications, open the Utilities folder inside it, run Console, then click "system.log").

If it doesn't, then your best bet is probably to call Tascam for advice. It's possible that they had to fix something in their hardware to make it work correctly with newer FireWire chipsets/PHYs for some reason, or it might be a bug in a particular Mac OS X update, or the device might need a firmware upgrade, or... who knows.

Thanks a lot for that. It deosn't show up unfortunately so I'll try again to get some sense out of Tascam.

Thanks for your help!

better late than never

Thats odd I installed one on a new mac and had no problems at all.

But I did notice when there is another item in the chain I need to
power up each unit individually. That was the case when using it
with a Glymph/Duet/1082 hooked up to FW800 on a macbook pro.

I think the 1082 does a better job as a surface controller than
an audio interface though.
