1010lt & Sonar...what do you think of this (opinions please)

Now that I have them up and running, I did a little test to see what my noise floor is (about). What I found a little disconcerting is that my #2 input seems to have a lot of noise I set the 1010lt to use the #1&2 ins as balance ins rather than using the preamps. Input 1 is doing nicely around -84db while input 2 is up around -75db. What do you think of this? How could they be so different. If they were both around -84 I'd be happy, but I was hoping to do a little better than -72 :(. Why is this happeneing? Is it a card problem do you think?

There was another slight anomolie between #3 & the rest of the unbalance ins, but I'm not terribly worried about that as it is more minor...but still interesting.

Just to test, I set up my onboard sound as well (tracks 9 & 10). Hehehe...big difference there :D

I'm interested in wha you think...do I have a bad 1010lt? Would you be happy with the -72 on #2?

Thanks in advance

I'd talk to the store that sold it to you,
swap for another. If it is too late for that,
M-Audio has very good warentee service,
altho it takes a while to get thru
their tech support line for an RMA.

I'm pretty sure that they offer
a life-time warentee for the initial
owner.

Just a quick update for y’all in case any one was interested.

I sent a description of the problem, along with the screenshot I captured, both to the place I purchased it and to M-Audio. M-Audio came back and said that it looked like I got a defective card. I was outside the typical 30 day return policy of the place I bought it, but with this info in hand they are taking care of me, considering I hadn’t been able to use the card yet since my old computer borked on me and I had to build a new one before I could use it. So it looks like I’m getting a new card. :D

For the record the place I bought this is www.digitalproaudio.com . Based on my experience, I would highly recommend anyone looking for audio equipment to check here. They seemed to always have the best price on the 1010lt I was interested in (can’t speak for other gear) and based on this experience, I would say their customer service is phenomenal. (no I don’ work for them ;)) :D.

M-Audio’s customer service was very prompt and helpful as well, although I would suspect getting a replacement card via that route would have taken a bit longer. Thumbs up here as well from this experience.

Just thought I would share this experience in case anyone was wondering what kind of service and support was out there.

Oh and another lesson. Check those soundcards out as soon as you get them. I would have never thought of doing this little test except on a whim from the “what is your Delta’s noise floor” thread right here. I could very well be stuck without a soundcard for an extended period of time right now or with a card with excessive self noise if I had never checked at all. :)

Ditto! Two thumbs up for www.digitalproaudio.com! I purchased my Aardvark DP2496 from them. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the guys there put my mind to rest. Excellent service. Actually, I was having problems with my M-Audio Omni Studio card, so he let me test the M-Audio and Aardvark side to side, and just send back the one that didn't work as smooth as the other in my system. Will definitely order again from them!
