I've had something like 8 western digitals fail on me over the years. I'll never touch another one. Especially now that they've gone to plastic housing. That's just me though.

I totally agree on the flash drives...
--------------------------------------

i had 1 5400 5g WD die on me 5 or 6 years ago and went maxtor, which have done well over the years, i managed to kill one by pulling the cmos jumper while the system was still pluged in, not on, but just pluged into the 110 outlet, damn thing/system started* and heard a horrable sound from the drive which was only a few months old, never booted again after that, :) (dumbass me) luckly, maxtor replaced the drive no questions ask and i learned an important lesson that day...

humm, really i own about 10 of the J series 80g WD drives, there all working correctly and web reviews show there holding there own as far as non defects... i can understand your views though, once bitten, twice shy... go figure, i'd be the same way if it were me i expect...

the 8mb cache drives appear to be working well, made by most all drive makers up till now, knock on wood...

I am quite geeked about the WD's, even with their limited size. I foresee 2 Raptor's and a 120gig slow EIDE for longterm storage being a good setup.

sub 6ms seek times are great, though batch conversion and video are where it will really benefit (as was said above).
