I am using the stock sound card (ESS Audio Drive1000) for some basic recordings on my Compaq Presario. Would the Soundblaster Live 5.1 be an improvement? - I have read through the archives, a simple yes or no would be a help. Thank you much!

Yeah, I thought they were more around $150, so now I don't see any reason why NOT to pick up an actual recording card instead of a consumer card.

Go for it!

to further reinforce the Audiophile, id say a Soundblaster Live 5.1 wouldnt be much, if any, of a step up from that ESS card as far as recording digital audio goes.....

The only thing I found worthwhile with SB is Soundfonts.

How much is the SB Live 5.1 card? I don't think you'd have to shell out much more for a much better card.

OK.....

I appreciate the input. The Audiophile 24/96 sounds pretty good, maybe I'll wait it out. If I can just expand a bit and put things in perspective....This time of year money can be tight. While I can find the S/B for $35 including shipping at ebay all day long, I notice that the 24/96 is a rare find, and quite a bit more in cost...at least today it was (I wonder why)-(sarcasm). I'm trying to eliminate or at least pin-point a problem I've been having with extra noise on my recordings. I'm running a low budget operation here for the time being and thought $35 wouldn't take food away from the kids, and considering I'm recording with a $99 guit-fiddle and Sony mic,ya know? For now I just wont waste any more time recording until I can get a better sound card. If anyone is interested, you can get an idea of what I'm doing, and the noise I'm getting here :http://www.nowhereradio.com/attaboy/singles
Also, I'm not trying for perfection, just some honest recordings without the extra noise.........Ive tried everything else. Anyone wanna buy some kids? he he. Thanks again...See ya!

Seriously, get the Audiophile. It'll be worth it.

Let me bring up one point you made yourself: The Soundblasters are going on Ebay alllll the time. The Audiophiles are hard as hell to find. Coincidence, or maybe the people that buy their Audiophiles actually want to keep them? :D

Wait it out, yo.

Man, your user ID gives me chills! A while back, I dated this chick named Dawn. At the time, it took like a couple months to get over her having dumped me (yeah...I know..."boohoo"). I've long since gotten past that, but seeing the names "Christopher" and "Dawn" so close together in print makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end!

:D

i own an audiophile too...but i say if you have the 35 and want something better...get the sb live

Audiophile it is !

Well, I respect you guys opinions and you've made your points and been a big help, and Christopher Dawn, yea, that was kinda my take on it too. I'm gonna go ahead and get the Blaster since I can have it up and running this week, but I think I should be able to get the Audiophile in a month or so. Much thanks people!
