Never Act Like U Know All
Ok

Long time sonce I posted.

Just keys & synth stuff I have:

Roland JV-1080 (w/hip hop, house, dance & techno exp boards)
Roland JD-990 (w/vintage synth exp board)
Roland JW-50 (master controller)
Roland XP-30
Roland JP-8080
*Roland Fantom XR Rack

*Yamaha Motif ES Rack

Korg M1R
*Korg Triton Rack

Alesis QSR
Alesis DM-PRO

Akai S5000 (Drums Only)

Ensoniq MR Rack

I dont think I need another general module since the Fantom, Motif and Triton are there for that.

I just want 1 main synth to round out things. I have the JP-8080, it's ok, but it's not cutting it.

So I'm thinking the new Clavia Nord Lead 2X.

I'd like to get the Access TI, but thats outta my price range for now.

I doing stuff like Paul Oakenfold, ATB, Lasgo, DJ Sammy, Sylver, DJ Cammy, DJ Encore, etc.

I feel the Nord Lead 2x should do the trick to round out things.

What do you mean by "main synth"? Anyone one of those would qualify.

It all depends what type of sounds you're looking for. I think, with the synths you have, you should be able to cover most of what you'd need, unless of course you're using them as straight romplers, playing only presets, and not actually programming them.

I mean, sersiusly, between the Triton, Motif, Fantom, you have most of what you'd need. If you feel the need for analog goodness and don't want to program it yourself, get some add on cards for the Motif and/or Fantom.

What type of sounds do you think the Nord would give you that you don't have covered?

I'm all for gear lust, but.......

I gotta agree with fraserhutch. What you have right now should cover pretty much everything. I have a Roland JV1010 and can do entire songs with it that dont suck. With what you have, I would never leave the house. :D

Go with something like the Korg Radias or Novation X-Station.

Is there a reason why you have not gone the softsynth route? There is so much to chose from nowaways.

Native Instrument's FM7 and newer FM8 sound great and go far beyond any of Yamaha's FM synths.

Looking at your gear and taste in musical composition the one thing that would stand out and give a type of sound that you dont have right now is an access virus . The TI obviously would be the choice if cash was not an issue but you can still get what you want with a Virus C or even a B . I have an Indigo 2 keyboard i'll be parting with soon , if your interested drop me a message . The Indigo 2 uses the Virus C engine . The TI has the USB interface and the VST plugin which is great , but not necessarily needed and sometimes it's hard to justify the price of a TI over an earlier model unless you can make full use of these features. I would not rush out and buy a Nord lead 2x , what you already have can achieve the leads niche. I actually sold my nord lead 3 the week after buying my TI ;)

I agree with brzilian here, The novation X-station is an amazing machine, great quality keyboard , a ton of midi features for softsynth control and racks alike , also has Pre-inputs and doubles as an audio interface ( althought the quality of the pre's are questionable ).

why not just a soft synth like reason or sampletank or something?

otherwise, you got some cool stuff already.

Have you considered the Minimoog line, pretty cool sounds and awesome filters and modifiers. In the software line, the Arturia Moog Modular can create interesting sounds, and comes with some great presets. Their minimoog software is pretty cool too.

I dont like softsynths because I havent had a chance to experience them on a decent computer that can produce "0" latency. I dont want to buy a new pc (YET) It will be comming.

HOWEVER, I am going to look at Rolands and Yamahas website to check out their expansion boards. I'll even check out Korgs to see what they have for the triton. Maybe I'll just max out all 3 with expansion boards. I dont like to program too much. I would much rather program a analog modeling synth like a virus b/c or TI.

.....

well in the middle of writting this post, I checked out their sites. The yamaha analog modeling board on the net gets crappy reviews (sounds suck, cant program), and rolands few boards suck also. At least Roland has demos of the patches for you to hear they sound like crap and dont even need to waste time driving to GC to buy it, take it home, try it, drive back to GC and return it !

Thanks Roland. You made me realize your exp boards suck right from my couch with my laptop! Koodos.

I will probably do a MOSS board, Dance Extreme EXP, Vintange Archives EXP, The Future Loop collection and Trance Attack.

I will try to find a Access B/C used somewhere. I still want those sounds.

But I think I'm going to buy a S3000xl in the meantime and dedicate it to drums because the a/d, d/a filters are still the best IMO for dirty fat drums.

Sample all of the drum wave forms from my Fantom XR, Motif ES Rack and Triton into Wavelab, then dump them to Zip to be used on my s3000xl.

Fantom XR has over 500 samples of drum waveforms by its self. Not counting the Fantom and Triton. I think I'll be alright for a while when it comes to drum samples. No need to buy samples from Kid Nepro or East/West.

So, with my jv-1080, jd-990, fantom xr, triton rack, motif es rack, s3000xl for drums only, and a virus b/c/ti, I think I am finally done with buy synth gear for a long time to come.

unless anyone has other suggestions

If you buy a virus pretty much all the MOSS boards you are planning to buy will a waste of cash , the virus is capable of being the "one" keyboard that for your kind of music gives you almost everything you will need.

And as you have the JP8080 you might want to check out and invest in the Vengence soundset that you can buy and download online , it pushes the JP to the limits and really makes the JP shine for EDM .

And like i said , I have a virus Indigo II ( virus c with 3 octave keyboard ) that im willing to part with for a fair price . ;)

if you have to try the softsynth route and are not afraid to jump in at the deepend , check out native instruments Absynth .

http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?id=absynth4_us

and for beats add battery 3 , thatll keep you busy and satisfied for a few years ;)
