Is there a huge difference between the two. WIll the 1/8 inch jack sound the same if just use a rca-> 1/8 adapter?

The reason I am asking this is that I own an audigy 2 platinum, but I just got a new HP computer and I can't seem to fit the front plate into the case. So in the meantime, am going to just use the 1/8 jack on the card itself. I usually run my guitar through a mixer out to the computer using rca cables. Will my new recordings sound the same as my old ones if the only difference is instead of using the front plate's rca jacks, I use an adapter to go directly to the card?

Well, there's more surface area available in an RCA connection for all those lil' electrons to come flooding across... but it should not affect the signal or the resulting sound significantly.

The thing to keep in mind is that the fewer connections you have to make, the better you are -- the less the chance for a bad connection. So a dedicated cable with 1/8" stereo plug on one end and two mono RCA plus on the other is "better" than using an adapter, which will introduce an extra connector into the signal path.

But a huge difference? No. Probably undectectable to the ears.
