1.5 Hours "Sunset Strip"

I posted this in my 1.5 hour thread, but, a few guys told me to make this a thread on its own, so here goes...

Live Drums.... Direct Bass.. 2 tracks of Pod guitars and 1 track of Vocals..

Drums.. were
MXL603's of OH...
57.. Snare...
57....Upper Tom
Nothing on Floor Tom
Apex..(Yorkville Bass drum Mic)

Created tonight 7:08 PM-8:38 PM EXACTLY!!!


I am not very pleased with the mix or the snare sound at all, but in the spirit of this, I adhered to my rules an did not go back and fix....

Vocals are too low also..

It's an old song I have recorded before..... I have about 3-5 edits on the vocals, and 1 edit on the left guitar... The rest is utterly, rawly LIVE!!!!

other than the vox bein' low (which you are already aware of) this is a pretty darn decent mix (and performance). Much better than I could do in 1.5 hours. I'll prolly barely get through one guitar take in that time... :p

P.S. I totally caught that snare flub before you even mentioned it... sorry.. I'm anal like that aboot drums. :p (and.. well.. pretty much everything else too... :D)

Thanks guys..... I am starting to feel really inspired... Recording is FUN again all of a sudden...

And, I am really starting to like my tune, better than some of the ones I spent weeks on....

Watch for another one tommorow...;)

Oh.. BTW, Good Ear Watyf!!!!!!

Another drum thing that bugs me is my shitty timing right after the break, where I am doing the bass drum and double time on the hats..... Given more time :D... I could have cleaned that up a bit...

my god, i couldn't even lay down that tamborine part in 1.5 hours!

the drums sound excellent! real drums always sound so good to me. especially the cymbals!

Honestly... I think I should give the drumsound credit to the shitload of Eq I added to them.... I'm pretty good with my drums, cause I know them, and I know how they will react when Eq'd, so I can get that drumsound within 5 minutes or so.... (From Scratch.. I didn't use any presets..)

Now, if another kit, was brought into my room and played by another drummer and tuned differently, well then I be fucked....

Then it might be work..:eek:

But really, I'm not going to any great lengths... Just recording directly into Pro Tools LE, Using Mackie Pre's..

Basic Mics..


Maybe Tommorow, I will post the drums sans EQ... Cause they are shit when flat..

I know what you mean man... I just got through with three days of drum edits for the album my band is working on. :eek: (normally I wouldn't need so much.. but they only gave me a day to track 11 songs.. :p )

I think that drums take up the most time, and I might have an advantage cause I'm a drummer....... But, listen to my lame ass guitar parts, and no solo...:(

man..you're getting a great drum sound.... missed the rim shot...didn't hear it right off.

yeah..some mix issues, but the sounds are good...especially those drums.

I was playing a lead (had to listen for a 2nd spin thru), and thought...hey, I should be recording this.. and just spend 10mins recording, and pop it back up. But, thought it would be cheating..
Plus, by the time I played with the song two or three times, it was just gtr masterbation, if you know what I mean.. Hey..but your tune gave me a little excitement there! man..I wish I kept that first lead... you "might" have liked it... then again....

good idea, btw...this 1.5 thingie...

Vox, you're getting a GREAT drum sound. Kick is nice and fat with a lot of push and snare just goes SMACK! Very cool sir.

Wow. You rule!

I liked the snare - whole drum sound was very tight. Voice was only too low sometimes - that's the kind of twaek you could do if you had a little more time, cap'n.

Excellent work, and great idea. I'm not playin' - I'm just too slow...
