I have a pre-packaged computer and was thinking of buying a 002 Rack...

SPECS:
Packard Bell iMedia P807
Intel Pentium 4 3GHz 512KB L2 800FSB
512MB RAM of DDR333
80GB Hard Disk Drive (1.5GB for recovery program)
DVD/CDRW 40x
(I copied this of a sticker on the tower...)

Would it be possible to run Pro Tools with a 002 Rack?
What else should I consider?

Cheers

You'll want another hard drive dedicated to audio for sure. You also may want to upgrade that Ram to at least 1 gig.

EDIT: Oh, and make sure you have firewire ports.

And see if there's a VIA chipset on your motherboard. Sometimes that can cause issues with PT. I don't think there would be a VIA chipset on that board though. Should work fine. Put some RAM in and a new hard drive and you should be good to go. I have the 002, and it works like a charm.

For all compatibility issues witrh Pro Tools, just check www.digidesign.com/compato

You need an extra hard disk dedicatedf for audio.

Upgrading to a gig can be usefull, but is not necessarry. I use 512 Ram with my Digi 002 rack and it works just fine.

Don't forget you got to disable HT in your Bios.

Check the compatability at Digi's site as suggested and make sure it all works, but it probably well.

While all the suggestions above are good, you don't actually *need* an external drive. I've recorded to the system drive and it works. Less performance, but it works. You MUST disable hyperthreading though or PT will choke every minute or 2. If your bios won't let you disable it, you computer won't work with PT. :(

Take care,
Chris

Thanks guys that was really helpful. Gotta bit of work to do yet... :)
