Classical / Orchestral Live Recording: Silver Line Trio

Great feedback.. These were my two biggest annoyances. The main one being the stereo image on the piano. I don't even have anything panned 100% L/R, but I guess I'll have to bring it into around 40% L/R and go from there. Maybe a stereo compressor would be good too. Everything is treated in...

Classical / Orchestral Live Recording: Silver Line Trio

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted and I thought I'd check in. Just finished recording a live 3 piece classical trio in a living room full of about 30 listeners. This is my first time recording classical music, and under such conditions. Let me know what you think! House Classical...

    Drum problems

Setting up a sidechain to open a gate with whitenoise behind it is not hard. Simple setup a bus from the snare to a track with white noise, or tone (I do this a lot with kick's). Insert whatever plugins you need to make the second track blend well with your original snare track, and then setup...

    Drum problems

It's not horrible... Dang, that sucks.. Even in a rush, a simple dampening ring on the snare, or a gel would have fixed that right up. You could try and work it more with EQ or maybe do some drum replacement with drumagog or something similar? Good luck!

Uhg... I'm stuck on this mix

Okay, so I stepped wayyy outside of my comfort zone mixing this track (and I think it shows.) So if you guys could give me some direction on this, I'd appreciate it! This is a mix project, and re-tracking anything is out of the question unfortunately. Notes: - There was a lot of bleed in...

If you do music this is for you!!!

I ALMOST passed this one up because I have an ftp/web server that I use for file hosting & sharing. But after further investigation, I figured that this is a really quick and easy way to keep some of my files / docs synch'd with other computers. Sure beats dragging around my USB thumbdrive, or...

    Cutting Results in a Clip?

Well, if it's not clipping on the input of the EQ, then I would just attenuate the EQ output gain, and compensate with the volume fader. Or like you mentioned, try switching EQ's. Good luck!

Help Needed - Female vocals and Piano

I'm feeling a hint of One Republic - "Too Late" (in particular) for this one. Big reverb'd kick, ambient snare & strings. Subtle, yet existent bass line. It might be far fetched, but I'd be interested to hear some synth playing off of strings, wayyyy off in the background as a filler track...

at what point do you call yourself an Audio Engineer?

LOL, man, this strangely reminds me of Spam and Vienna sausages rolled up into 1 with stuffing. Let us know how that goes down :D

    Cutting Results in a Clip?

At the top there is an input gain, and an output gain. Are you sure you're not clipping to track? Is there anything else in your signal chain before that EQ that could be boosting the signal going to the EQ? I'm just thinking out loud here... but here are a few troubleshooting questions that...

at what point do you call yourself an Audio Engineer?

If you recorded it, mixed it, and are still able to stand behind the quality of your music. You're an audio engineer. The caliber of which may yet to be said. There are good, and there are bad audio engineers. Listeners ears will be the judge of that. Now, quit being name calling pussies...

    5 months late

Hey, Cybergord from the Mixing / Recording section had asked for one of his tracks to be mixed back in April or something. I was bored yesterday morning, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I put roughly 3 hours into it. http://hitwarehouse.com/mp3s/demo/SoulMotion.mp3 The original link to the...

    Can anyone mix my track

I'm gonna join the better late then never club... I was bored this morning and stumbled across this thread. Here's what I came up with. Would have liked to have finished up the automation, and made the drums bigger. But I decided to call the quits with where I'm at...

What's the best way to synch choruses so their completely onbeat?

Flying the hook in... I think he's talking about "flying the chorus". Where you record the hook / chorus & overdubs once, and fly (or copy) it over to the rest of the choruses. I use two methods, depending upon if my session is on a grid or not. If the session is not on a grid, often I will...

    I'm Done

Hey JP, nice track man. You have that oldschool thick country voice that I remember listening to growing up. Overall I think this is a nice track. I do have a couple of personal opinions as well. I like the guitar intro, it seems less muffled, and sparkles more on the high end now. The...
