Fender Blues Jr. 15w Tube amp

When you live in an apartment, 15 watts all tube is plenty loud. I'm using a Tech 21 RVB pedal and love it. Anyhow, I often record dry and add reverb with a plugin these days.

After looking at my options, I went with Addictive Drums and love it. http://www.xlnaudio.com/?page=products

    Reverb Questions

Right. Good pt. I could do that. Well, I'll try to get my mixes just right in this regard and avoid having to add any reverb at the mastering stage. It shouldn't be too difficult in that my drums are midi tracks composed with Addictive Drums and changing their reverb settings (and each...

    Recording bass direct to recorder

Ricklh, You'll be fine. What I meant actually was that without any treatment from a DI unit that also has some features like eq and so forth, your signal probably won't be usable without processing with software or a plugin. Of course you may be doing that-- I don't know. But I highly doubt an...

    Reverb Questions

If I were to add reverb to an entire mix I would have trouble given my current approach which involves rendering a track in Reaper and "mastering" (kinda) in T-racks 3. I can't add the reverb in T-racks to my knowledge, and applying it to the master on the way out of Reaper wouldn't be good in...

    32bit floating pt.

Okay. I'll have to check on that-- shouldn't be too difficult. If those are 24 bit, then I guess I have no reason to utilize 32. Would cropping audio files in Reaper, changing their volumes, and fading in or out be "destructive"? I don't think so, but I want to make sure.

    Recording bass direct to recorder

I would think that without a DI (such as a Tech 21 unit) the sound quality would be fairly poor and you would need to use a software program like Ampeg SVX to create something decent. Also, you would probably run into some problems without a Hi-Z input when recording direct like that.

    32bit floating pt.

What about midi tracks created with Addictive Drums or Miroslav? Will those be 24bit or 32 since they originate within the project and are not captured external audio?

    32bit floating pt.

But internally in the DAW wouldn't files you edit with plugins be more accurate with 32bit floating pt. (or even 64) than 24 and the subsequent rendered song represent that editing better at 32 or 64? Maybe, as you said, even if this holds true the advantage is negligible. Due to financial...

    Reverb Questions

First, do you ever add subtle reverb to bass guitar tracks? I am thinking this is rarely done, but I wanted to receive some feedback nonetheless. Secondly, do you ever add reverb to an entire mix? Ideally, I'm sure getting your mix as desired before attempting to master is the way to go, but can...

    Best/Favorite SOLID STATE Amp (poll)

Tech 21 although I would go with a couple Character Series pedals into one of their power engines before buying a Trademark amp. The pedals are more versatile and sound a bit better imo.

    32bit floating pt.

I am obviously ignorant about some of these things, but if your 24bit audio files are processed at 32 then why not save them as 32bit files and also render your song at 32 before dithering at the master stage?

(mastering) EQ curves of todays music

Well, that's the deal-- it's all subjective really. In terms of sound quality, I prefer the analog approach, but it is by far more time consuming, expensive, and leaves you with less options for editing tracks and correcting mistakes. But if I want to listen to U2, I prefer the sound of the...

Fender Blues Jr. 15w Tube amp

It's a pretty good amp but I can't get a decent amount of saturation/distortion from it at low volumes and the reverb basically sucks imo. I use an analog reverb pedal instead.

    Tech 21 Character Series

I don't get hum from the Blonde pedal when I use my Les Paul with buckers, but I do notice some when I play my strat through it, although it's not too bad and I don't think it's noticable in the mix. I still prefer tube amps, especially for recording solos, but these pedals are great backups and...

(mastering) EQ curves of todays music

I agree. I prefer the sound of records that came out 5-15 years ago, generally speaking, over the majority of what I hear today. What primarily has changed, I don't know...

    t-racks

I think it's fine especially if your tracks are going to end up primarily being heard online as mp3s. Anyhow, I get my mixes pretty much how I want them and then use T-racks 3 basically for limiting and very mild compression to get the overall level up. I try to have my EQ just where I want it...

(mastering) EQ curves of todays music

I have noticed this too with certain bands such as Rise Against. Their most recent CD sounds somewhat muddy, especially compared to The Sufferer & the Witness.

    32bit floating pt.

I do quite a lot of processing with plugins, but I assume most, if not all, of my editing is nondestructive. But when I do change the WAV bit depth under "file> project settings> audio setting" Reaper still displays "32bit" in the upper right hand corner, not 24bit.

    32bit floating pt.

Alright. That helps a bit. What do you recommend under project settings for WAV bit depth though? Wouldn't 64 FP be ideal? And when you render, what would you select? Also, Farview, do you "allow projects to override device sample rate" or keep that unchecked?
