Need M208/M216 Mid Freq EQ Pot

Hey Corey, hope you are well too. I still stay current on your repair threads even though I don't post :) These are single, non-stacked pots, if "non-stacked" is a word. I bought the mixer in rough shape about 6-7 years ago, and it had this one bad pot. I'm finally getting around to fixing it...

Need M208/M216 Mid Freq EQ Pot

Hello all, It's been a long time... I'm looking for a replacement 200K reverse audio taper pot for my M208. Each input PCB has one of these for selecting the midrange frequency to cut or boost... it's the third pot from the top of the channel, after Gain/Trim and HF EQ. These pots are almost...

    biasing a 388 for 0db tape

I get it re: affordability, I need a second MRL myself and I've put it off for months for lack of funds. But if you are dedicated to recording with tape it will be essential that you get a MRL for your machine/s. It's not just good hygiene, it's critical to making good sounding recordings. Good...

    biasing a 388 for 0db tape

Hey, stepping out of the shadows for a sec. I don't mean to be rude but it's foolish to disregard the technical advice being given here. The people commenting on your thread have decades more experience than you do and they're doing their best to help you with your situation. And, as someone...

    RMT branded SM911 and SM900

Hi! I came out of hibernation to comment on this thread. I'm on the market for 10+ reels of 1/4" tape and I just learned of the "Recording The Masters" brand a couple weeks ago. Can anyone vouch for this brand? I'm curious to hear what other's experiences have been so far. I haven't bought any...

When will this Portastudio bubble burst?

I think there's a kitsch element. I hope it doesn't mean that cassettes will go out of fashion later on. It would be nice if cassettes stick around... it's fun to have variety, IMO.

Tascam 34B: Popping/clicking and weak signal on channel 4

OK, so y'all might think I'm an idiot, but it finally occurred to me last night to try my spare DBX unit. And when I did, channel four worked PERFECTLY. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and I'm hoping that a faulty NR unit is the culprit. Because I can at least continue using the spare unit...

Tascam 34B: Popping/clicking and weak signal on channel 4

Thank you for the very useful input - it's VERY good to hear from someone who's worked with these machines, especially as a Teac tech. I hadn't considered a relay failure. It could be something else, too, as you pointed out. I'm just doing some research before I undress my little brown friend...

Tascam 34B: Popping/clicking and weak signal on channel 4

EDIT: The first version of this post said: I realize it's not that, it's actually a combination of tricky source material (recordings from shortwave radio), old/aging equipment, dirty pots, cheap effects units, and deferred maintenance. I've got a LOT of work to do in the coming weeks.

Tascam 34B: Popping/clicking and weak signal on channel 4

Hello and happy new year! My trusty 34B developed a problem a while ago. When it records on track 4, the signal going to tape is weak, it distorts a little sometimes, and there are electrical "pop" sounds. Sometimes the level fluctuates, sometimes it's more constant, but it's always weak...

Need 1/4" IEC MRL... possible trade?

Hey folks, I'm (perpetually) low on cash and I desperately need a 1/4" 15ips IEC MRL tape for my four track and two track machines. I have a "Short" 7.5 & 15ips 1/4" NAB MRL tape that I can trade in exchange. I also have a bunch of stuff like cables, empty 1/2" reels with boxes, punk and...

    Tascam tsr8 + Tascam m216 questions

They're not balanced - ?? Weird! I know they're +4 db line level, are the cold and ground pins shorted internally or something?

    Tascam tsr8 + Tascam m216 questions

It's pretty unusual. In my experience, the insert points on most mixers are post-gain, pre-EQ. I wonder what the motivation was behind this choice.

    Tascam tsr8 + Tascam m216 questions

Actually I believe the inserts on the 200 series are post-EQ. You will want to look this up somewhere or try it yourself, don't just take my word on it. I have a M208 and when I insert a compressor on a channel and then adjust the EQ, it changes the nature of the compression (evidenced by the...
