    The divorce song

Thanks fellas! Vomit: you make me laugh, and it's much needed. I'll be lurking and listening. GZ

    The divorce song

I'm sure this isn't the right place for this, but who cares. After 34 years of marriage, I'm getting a divorce. I'm in the process of tearing down the studio, and boxing up stuff. Most likely, a lot of it will be sold, since it's not getting used enough to justify the cost. Just want to say...

    Mastering. Worrying about nothing?

Paul, That really sucks. At least you got the CD out before it happened.

    Mastering. Worrying about nothing?

That was really nice of you to F/U with your friend at the BBC. Kudos man. Hey steen. I see I have to wait 8 more days for the i-tunes download. Any chance you guys printed some hard copy CD's on this one? I'm in for a few if so... Thanks, GZ

    Alternate tunings are cool...

Love it Bob! I could listen to this all evening and into the morning. I especially like the name of the song...Oregon lake :-0

    mixing help poverty

I really like the song and the vocal work is outstanding, IMO. The drums are clearly the weak link, and I say this as a non drummer who struggles greatly with programming drums to sound anywhere half decent. Yours aren't bad, it just doesn't seem like the drums mesh very well with the heavy...

    It's time for church...

Bob, Love the acoustic guitar sound. You always do well with that. The synths sound good. Overall, I like the mix. At about 0:23 it sounds like the guitar and piano(?) get a little off beat with each other for a measure or two. Also, at the end the back up vocals (around 3:39) seem to have...

    1st track of 12. Acoustic singer/songwriter.

Paul, Sounds great on first listen. I'll listen critically when I'm not so tired, and I can hear it on monitors. Where do you find these guys?

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

I ended up just trying to keep the drums out of the way of the song. I do think it sounds better with than without, which was the goal originally. Plus I think it's way better than where I started. Thanks dobro.

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

All right, I know this thread has been beat to death, but I think I'm pretty close to wrapping this thing up. This is what I've got for a fairly final mix: https://www.box.com/shared/static/rtm3320802jrf9g5apf3.mp3

    Doooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bingo! This was my immediate first impression after the vocals kicked in. Pretty cool. For a second, I thought I was back in high school.

    Lend Your Ear

Wow, thought this thread died a long time ago. The kick has a metric halo compressor reducing about 3dB on the channel at 4:1, and a send to a parallel fatso compressor with pretty heavy compression dialed in. I think it's more of an eq issue, but I'll fiddle with it to see if reducing...

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

Exactly. I did come here looking for constructive ideas on how to make it better, and generally speaking, I've gotten some great feedback. If I completely ignore everyone, what's the point of asking in the first place? I also understand that programming drums is new to me, and I need help...

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

Honestly, I'd take an obnoxious, fat, ugly drummer right now (Any volunteers?). Well, I think the critiques have generally led me in the right direction, and I like the last simple drum mix better. Remember, I've never done drums before, so I expected some negative feedback. Is that what you...

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

OK, now I know why you thought it was too busy. I actually know what you're saying about the vocal. It's very breathy. It might sound better without being so. I'll check it out. Thanks again for the feedback.

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

OK, Good. Now it's just the drums that are making me pull my hair out. Oh, wait... I don't have any. Thanks

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

I tried brushes in an earlier version. Didn't work out too well. It's VERY hard to program brushes to sound right. About the pattern in this one, can't think of a way to make it any simpler. Everyone keeps telling me simple pattern. This is about as simple as I can think of. Yes, I'd love...

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

Thanks. Re-did the drums completely. New version below. Thanks Ray. I ditched the cymbal hits for the most part. Appreciate the feedback, as always. So here's the new version. Nothing fancy, just mostly kick and snare. Added a shaker and tambourine to the second chorus just to drive it...

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

Great feedback from all of you guys. Thank you. I'll simplify even more, and try out some different kits.

Fake Drums. How bad is it?

Hey thanks Chili. I'll revisit the vocals and see what I can come up with. Thanks for listening while you were here. Good ideas about bringing the drums in later. I was thinking the brush made it more folky than a regular snare, but you seem to think it sounds more rock this way...
