As it turns out I'm pretty sure the high end kit was a scam. The site disappeared off ebay so probably better for me that I didn't bite. The boy is thrilled with the Yamaha kit so its all good.

Whoa - before you start making recordings of people without their knowledge and consent you might wanna check as to the legality of it all. Here in Canada there are specific criminal code sections about the interception of private communications that deal with recording conversations.

We just got the Yamaha dtxplorer kit which I think is very close to the express - at least looking at the two. 300 sounds like a good deal. My son loves the dtxplorer kit and has already made some huge strides just because he's got it in his room and can play any time of the day or night.
Big...
Thanks for all the feedback. If they were for me I'd try making my own as I am pretty handy with the soldering iron but I expect the boy would have balked as they wouldn't look at all like the ones he gets his lessons on.
We went with the Yamaha rental for now and after almost a week of just...
Quoting Cubaseman too
"I think that's how it goes for a lot of us... not a lot of songwriting talent, or performance abilities (maybe one or the other, or both ), but we also love the gear. I know I didn't need to spend anywhere near what I've spent so far on audio equipment in comparison to...
I just got back from the music store and I was looking at the fireware there. It would seem that as many direct outs as the mixer has is, so long as the puter is fast enuf, the number of channels that can be recorded at the same time.
So it would seem the Yamaha with more channels may be better...
Pretty impressive - I'm really a newb to all this but it just seems like once you hook a puter up to a mixer you should be able to record as many channels at once as you like. It is now apparent to me that I'll have to either find a larger budget (don't tell my wife, she says I already spend...
I'm looking at two usb mixers as the basis of the studio I'm putting together. I have a newish laptop with a gig of ram.
The boards I'm looking at are the Yamaha mg206 and the Allen and Heath ZED 14.
The Allen and Heath has only 6 xlr inputs while the Yamaha has 16 and the prices are not too...
I have to decide whether to but this Roland TD20S-BK - V-Pro TD20 Kit at way less than retail and just need to know they're a good kit as its way more than I was planning on spending.
Also are they good to record with.

I've got a line on a used Roland TD20S-BK - V-Pro TD20 Kit.
Help - they look good - are they - and more paraticularly for recording are they good.
Its a bit of a short fuse offer and is more than I was planning on spending but from what I've seen they're too good not to grab

It looks like I'm going with the mg206c-USB - the rival music store guy is getting me a really good deal on this board.
Besides good sound, reliability is certainly what I'm after, after getting 1st a wonky makie (broken pod out of the box) then the 2 beh's.
The used loaner Yamaha was for...

Thanx for the post. Thats exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.
The kit I'm planning on getting is about $700cdn - is that what you meant by cheap little electronic?
$45 per month to rent and then 60% of the rental back if I decide to buy.
Is buying used electronic drum...
I've been using PC's forever, since b4 the internet even and my brother learned me about Bulletin Boards like this one - (as in What do you mean I can send messages long distance and not pay long distance charges, this goes over the telephone wires right?)
My eldest, 23 has a mac and swears by...
Thanx - I'm getting the idea that I can go new for not much more - I'm looking at the Yamaha MG206C-USB and the Soundcraft EFX12 both of which are in the same price range. The Behringer I bought new and took back when the effects stopped working and got the Yamaha on loaner till Behringer sent a...
Thanx for asking mullin, I just got a Yamaha P70 for my daughter and it was the only one she'd have anything to do with after trying out some of the much more expensive keyboards because of the graded hammer standard which emulates a grand piano. She could feel it and once buddy at the music...
My dilemma is not pads or electric drums its whether to by another set of acoustic drums or electric drums for the boy.
I remember when I was 14 and bought my first electric guitar for $5.00. I opened it up and soldered and played around until I could plug it in to my dad's reel to reel tape...
I'm shopping around for electronic drums for my son to practice on in his bedroom and there's all kinds out there. The problem is when I get near to laying down a pile of cash I'm just having a hard time parting with real money for what I'm preceiving as fake drums.
We have a set of real...
I currently have a Behringer FX1832 but am looking at trading up to a used Yamaha MX20/6 and paying a couple hundred bucks. I've tried the Yamaha and like it but is $600 fair market value for this board?
