    Original song: "Anti-Vaxxer"

This mix is very good - great job! And the song is amazing as well.

    Flight of An Angel

Pretty sweet! I thought the, for lack of a better phrase, "rhythm" guitar that comes in at 15 seconds seems to be pretty loud and kind of buries the "lead" guitar that opens the track. Its not wrong, and it might be a stylistic choice. Just bringing attention to it. What does stand out to me in...

Selections from my musical for mix critiques! (Prog/Musical Theater/Rock/Classical)

I prefer wide and seperated stereo fields. LCR was a pretty common technique for awhile too. Have you ever listened to a Broadway cast album? Those vox are dry as fuck....even more than mine are. Some don't have any reverb, others have a tiny bit with very small tails. If you listen to the 1970...

Selections from my musical for mix critiques! (Prog/Musical Theater/Rock/Classical)

Hey all, a couple of months back I posted my lead single from my upcoming musical based on Norse mythology for some critique. I definitely appreciated all of the advice I got. Now I have preliminary mixes on the rest of the album itself. There are 21 total songs, but rather than posting all of...

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

Just listening on bookshelf speakers with a relatively low volume....the snare drum seems to have less presence than the bass drum. Its not a "wrong" choice per se, but it does seem unusual, that the bass drum cuts more than the snare. There's a tom that's also consistently hit that's noticeably...

    Magic Spell

Agreed that the drums are ever so slightly off from the guitar riff. But its not enough to be "bad", it can come across as a deliberate stylistic choice. But it is worth pointing out. It does rock. Its a great track for sure.

Compressing Acoustic Guitars, and the dichotomy between what's said and what's done

Ah yes, the Polythene Pam guitar sound! That acoustic has to be slammed hard into a Fairchild.

Compressing Acoustic Guitars, and the dichotomy between what's said and what's done

Oh yeah I've definitely seen that. A lot of advice is transparency or doing as minimally as possible, but you see legendary engineers on classic boards with 3-4 band EQ's per channel, regularly pushing those bands like +-10 dB like its an everyday occurrence.

Compressing Acoustic Guitars, and the dichotomy between what's said and what's done

This is more a minor rant, but there's also a small question here as well. So I'm working on my concept album, and I'm mixing a few songs with acoustic guitar. I feel some of the songs call for compression. Yet I don't have much experience mixing acoustic guitar, so I like looking around online...

Oh this is a cool song, I dig this!

"Dance of Swords" music video finally released!

A couple months ago I got y'al opinions in the MP3 Clinic on this track from my upcoming rock musical. I want to appreciate all the help I got there. I just premiered the video (which I also shot) today, and releasing the song on Bandcamp as well (Spotify et. al. will follow soon). It was also...

Damn, I'm amazed. I know they're notorious for IP theft, so the fact that happened is surprising. But welcome for sure!

    Not curtains. You need mass.

Eh, if one of the musicians/singers pressed for royalties, I wouldn't exactly be mad. Like I said, if I started a project now, I would do that. I considered adding that to the guys I've been recording now, but didn't in fairness to the people from 10 years ago. And I'm actively trying to get a...

    Songwriting Percentages

Yeah I have to start thinking about PRO, thanks for reminding me. I signed up for BMI like 16 years ago but didn't do a whole lot with it, and that one production I was the sole songwriter so it was easy. I'll need to start looking into *that* again, its been years since I've read/learned about...

Well, I don't think that's exactly fair either. Alex hasn't put any money or effort into the production of the album. I even asked him back in 2012 when I first started floating the idea of making the album if he can contribute funds, and he said no. I just did some rough napkin math and I put...

Oh wow, that low? Haha okay, thank you for that! Since there's 21 tracks, that'd be $2.604 per sale, so $1.302 to Alex, regardless of how much it sold for? Should be easy. Although to complicate things, while I am in the US, Alex lives in France. Would we still go by US laws since that's where...
