How to write lyrics - (ideas?)

lyrics hurt my brain I find it really hard to write lyrics. I can write music for hours on end, and get completely lost in it, but when it's time to come up with something to say (verbally), it's torture. I have to force myself to sit down and start writing lyrics. The only thing that helps...

    Fruity Loops any good?

triplets Eddie - regarding your triplets question... the Shift function shifts the drum hit-- just as you would expect. The level reflects the amount of time you add between the beat and the playing of the drum hit. So if you don't add any shift, then the drum hit plays right on the beat...

250 MB Zip Drives work in the BR8?!?

Hey all.... This is big big news if it's true. I have not tried it. Check out the BR8 forum over on Yahoo eGroups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BR-8/message/1701 Pete

    weak signal on br-8

No, those are two different things. A preamp boosts a weak signal (such as the one coming out of your microphone), up to line level. The BR8 has internal preamps, but they simply don't work well. You'd do much better if you got an external preamp for this task, rather than using the internal...

    weak signal on br-8

Yep-- the BR8's internal micpres are lousy. They don't boost the signal nearly enough. Most BR8ers end up buying an external mic preamp, which makes a huge difference in volume and clarity. Pete

Katmandude - Definitely get a tune up there. Post it up in the mp3 mixing clinic, let us know, and I'll check it out. Pete

    My Experience With Sam Ash

Greg- I don't quite get your implication that the reason Sam Ash's customer service is bad for web orders is because you are primarily a mailorder company. What's the difference between a mail order company and an internet retailer? The difference is that if you're an internet retailer, you...

OK. got a BR-8 ... bass simulation question.

The bass sims are pretty much garbage, as you've unfortunately discovered. When I do use it, which is next to never, I always stick to the low E-string for my bass lines. I get better results when I play with my thumb instead of a pick. It also helps that when you are thumbing the string, to...

deciding. new boss br-8, br-532 or used roland vs-880

If you've got a PC or Mac with a zip drive, you can back-up the song files to your computer, or, you can convert each track into a wave file on your PC and save them that way. You can get a 100 Mb external Zip drive for $100 on Amazon. Cheaper on eBay, I'm sure. And if you want to get...

    Fruity Loops any good?

drum tracks I've posted this before, but it's on topic so I'll post it again-- bongolation, check out 2 songs on my mp3 page: "Good Luck John" and "Loopes des Fruites"... both are passable non-techno drum tracks that I programmed in a very short time (under 3 hours, for both combined)...

deciding. new boss br-8, br-532 or used roland vs-880

BR-8 = Simplicity When it comes to the creative process, I'm a huge fan of simplicity. Are you one of those people that wants to be able to push a button when an idea pops into your head? Then BR-8 is your thing. Could you ever imagine yourself complaining about not being able to hook up 15...

    N-track Drum Program?

That was my initial impression of Fruity Loops, too. But it does much more than just techno. You have to understand how to use it. Seriously, check out my songs.... not techno or dance. Pete

    N-track Drum Program?

2Dudes Check out 2Dudes: http://www.2dcd.com Gidge was actually the one who first told me about it. I just got their sample CD in the mail this week, but I haven't really worked with it yet. Their website has free samples for download, and I think they are the best of what I've seen out...

    N-track Drum Program?

I use Fruity Loops with n-track, and it works great. Once you program the drum track, you can either export single drums to their own wave individually (better for mixing), or else you can export the entire drum track down to just one stereo wave file. The second option works fine, and is good...

    Something quick and silly

Great, psmith! Are you a Clapton fan... I heard a little '70's/'80's era Slowhand in there... I liked the song, particularly. I agree with Emeric on the solo guitar sound. I'm a purist, so I tend towards vintage sounds and not synthie sounds. Also, I'd take the level down a touch on the...

    Record scratch rap

so..... That said... can someone give me a direct link to some scratch samples? I, for one, do not know any dj's, and I don't have the funds to hire one. I dont' want to steal anything, I'd just like a few scratch samples/passages to throw into my songs. Can anyone ablidge? PRiz-- if you've...

    Stuck!!!!!

Another way to come up with fresh musical ideas, is to write with a new instrument. I usually write with guitar, but have been pleasantly surprised when I start somewhere else... drum loop, bass line, violin riff, piano chords. It evens helps if you AREN'T proficient on the instrument, because...

How hard are you panning your doubled lead vocals

hard panning? Not to change the subject too much, here.... but what DOES sound good "hard panned"? I'm assuming that "hard pan" means, panning to the left or right as far as the pan knob will go. What are you supposed to put back there? My tendency is to not put anything deeper than 8:30 or...
