whats the best equipment to use to record on the computer.

Pine Tree Peavy Dude, Steer clear of the Peavy stuff, in most cases. I grew up in Peavy's backyard, and their chintzy quality (or lack thereof) were legendary around those parts. I'd also stay clear of USB if you have $1K to spend, since a PCI or FireWire interfact will have a better data...

    Home Recording Poll

Where oh where... I selected "basement" on the poll, 'cause there wasn't any choice for "dedicated studio space in your home, acoustically treated, and located on what is considered the basement level of your house, even thought it is actually 100% above ground."

    Looking for a specific interface

Thanks for the input, guys. You put me on the track I needed, and I'm looking at possibly the MOTU 2408, which has no pres but 8 analog inputs.

    Looking for a specific interface

Hey all, I'm curious to know if a beast of this sort exists... I'm happy with the preamps on my analog mixing console and outboard pres, so what I'd like to know is whether or not there's a decent interface out there that meets these parameters: - at least 8 analog (line level) inputs; any...

    problems with clipping

Djembe djembe djembe... Hey, First off, summing the two 0dB signals is what is killing you. Get the individual levels down to -10 or so, and see what you get. You may end up flipping the phase of one track, but experiment and see which way gives you a fuller bottom-end. That is the way to...

    track problems

Wha? Sounds to me like it may be a problem with your interface, not with Cubase. What you're describing should never happen, unless you're using open-back headphones cranked WAY up, and recording thru a sensitive condenser mic at the same time. You seem to have a signal routing problem...

Kick drums at a consistent level

One more thing... I forgot to mention that I'm widely known as a gorilla with drumsticks; when I'm playing rock music, I hit really, really hard. No "fairy taps" to be found. I don't consider triggering as a crutch for lack of power, or whatever other half-cocked assault on my ever so mighty...

Kick drums at a consistent level

Badassagog Okay, just my two cents worth, but I've been a drummer for nearly 30 years. Not bragging, but I've played in big venues for up to 10,000 people, and recorded a buttload of albums for many people. I'm known in some circles as a really quick tracker, lotsa one-takes. Point is...

    Need new headphones...suggestions?

Headphones FWIW, The Sony 7506's have pretty much been an industry standard for a bunch of years, and for good reason. $99, and good for everything. I've got 2 pair, in addition to my AKG & JVC sets.
