for what its worth..i've compared the dbx on a tsr-8 and the dolby s on an msr-16s and both systems get rid of the hiss (the hiss is much worse on the 16-track of course), but it seems that dbx changes the tone of the recordings a little bit. dolby s is more transparent as one would say. But in...

its well worth it for the price. very happy with it on drums and i used it to limit a feeding back guitar the other night. worked great. for those who turn the knobs and say nothing happens, well compression is kind of an analytical thing, not like an eq, you have to think a little.

I haven't tried demaging. I'll do that tonight. I haven't tested the machine during recording I could try that too. all I have done is played back tapes recorded on my other machine. I could always start swapping parts but I'm worried that I'd end up with 2 not working machines. :)

So, I have 1 tsr-8 and I thought I should have a backup so I bought another one! I know that track 8 can be used for time codes so it should be possible to synchrnize the 2 of them. I have no idea how to proceed, no idea as to what I need to do this. Any advice would be helpful. thanks.
