Use a 4-6 pin adapter for the interface. The other two pins are used to power the firewire device *if necessary*. The Presonus doesn't need to be powered by the firewire bus, so it'll be fine.

The SMPRO M-Patch2 might be what you're looking for. It has a pair of balanced inputs, and 3.5mm aux input that you could plug a headphone signal into. It also has two balanced outputs, and you can switch between the inputs/outputs.

I agree with recording it mono, and maybe double tracking it a panning hard L/R. Does the cymbal sound good in the room? ;) A bad sounding cymbal is just that - bad sounding. There isn't a lot you can do about that... Also, using soft mallets, on opposite sides of the cymbal will help...

I'm just going to repeat this... There's no way that you could tune, or dampen the ring out of a G1 on the bottom of a snare and make it sound good.

If the vocals are as loud as possible before feeding back, getting a more powerful setup isn't going to help. The vocals will still feed back at the same point. The key to reducing feedback is speaker placement and mic technique. You may have to get used to singing a little closer to the mic...

If you are actually using a G1 on the bottom, that's the problem. You need a snare-side head, which is thin enough. A G1 is 10mil thick. I think your average snareside head is .3mil thick.
