    DMP3 - Schematics and mods....

Hey, I'm still watching for the rest of that schematic! You missed a couple of resistors, too. There's a pair of I think 2k resistors on the XLR side of the jack switch, thus providing 2k ohms input impedance through the XLR and 100k ohms into the 1/4" jack when the switches open. Check me on...

Seriously...what do all you DIYers think of the DIY work on this:

"So you can't simply have bypass caps "calculated to carry the majority of the signal, leaving only the bass to the Nichicons.", it doesn't work that way. But Muse are still good, low distortion electros, and probably a good improvement over the original." Actually in this case it kinda did...

Hey Techno, I bumped into a post of yours saying that you had a Tascam 388 parts car. You still got it? Want to sell me a card? A

    the fender stratocaster is perfect.

I just saw something I'd never seen before; something called a "Sub-Sonic" Strat. Hard tail bridge and two humbuckers, in the model of the Gibson camp. I'd say that that's the Strat I'd buy but I really prefer the smaller bodies on some of the import beginner Strats (Affinities, etc.) H PS...

    the fender stratocaster is perfect.

Well, y'know, it's there so you can wrap your pinkie around it and mess with it while you play. I say there's altogether too many knobs on the guitar and when I debug mine I just leave that pot off and wire a more ordinary volume and tone ensemble.

    Tascam 388 schematics???

I think maybe I can; let me see whether I can copy these full size. I don't like splitting them and you wouldn't want them reduced. If you don't mind, send me your email address. I'm at hp23 at frontiernet dot net. H

    WANTED Porta 02 Parts Car

Hello. I am looking for half a Porta 02. Broken transport ok, but I need good electronics, all record and playback working properly, good pots and jacks. As far as visual condition goes, a nice one would be nice, a scuffy one would be okay, I don't want a dirty one. Needless to say it should...

    the fender stratocaster is perfect.

Actually, I believe that the Jazzmaster is the Best Guitar too, despite a couple of personality issues (The guitar I mean, not me. Well, me too.). If I could only buy a Squier version of it for $150 I'd be in heaven. I'd have half a dozen with different pickups....

    Dopey HR-16 MIDI question

I know I'm dense but that doesn't seem to work. I have everything on Channel 1, I plug my keyboard into the HR-16 and the output of the HR-16 into the Yamaha CBX tone box. If I play a note on the keyboard, going through the HR-16, I see the Channel 1 light on the CBX flash, and I hear a note...

    the fender stratocaster is perfect.

"The only way you are going to get a great guitar for a $100 is if you luck up at a yard sale and are able to take advantage of some poor widow that does not know what she has. Listen to some Hendrix or some Blackmore, then get back to me on the tremolo being a bad feature on Strats.BTW, you can...

    the fender stratocaster is perfect.

The best thing about the Strat design is that it's so close to perfect for so many people that is is now a standard format. Thanks to standardization it is now possible to pay less that $100 for a guitar that is designed in a standard way, that is playable and can kick butt if the guy playing...

    Dopey HR-16 MIDI question

Hi there. I have an HR-16 which is all the programming power I need today, but when I tried to hit keyboard notes with it via MIDI, all I got was drums from the targeted keyboard, regardless of channel. I thought that all the drums were supposed to be on Channel 10 and the other channels...

    best sax mic

You know, that whole thing with selecting mouthpieces and reeds can happen again with mics. What do you want to sound like? When I think sax I think of the giants that walked the earth in the heyday of King Records.....Earl Bostic, Clifford Scott (Bill Doggett Band) .... Might I say that the...

Need a drum kit! Suggestions please..

I've got some stuff I'm not going to use... I've got some stuff I'm not going to use; Old, mostly Ludwig, cheap but sounds pretty good (I think). No cymbals. What state do you live in? Sorry if this breaks some rule but if I can help the guy why not? H

Which software you use to make audio recording

Well, that's irrelevant. If a guy wants to record on tape, or play an acoustic instrument, or have a real live girlfriend, or walk in the park, or enjoy any aspects of our rapidly-forgotten natural human existence, he's entitled. So what if the music ends up on a cd later? "Hate" is just a...

    polysterine capacitors

I actually did audition polystyrene, polypropylene, and Mylar caps in a homemade mic once, and the polystyrenes were significanty cleaner sounding than the others. These were the generic Mouser style polystyrenes, not the $$$ brand-name audiophile ones, which sometimes don't sound that hot.

    DO quality cables really matter?

Funny you should mention this Funny you should mention this. I'd defaulted to Mogami for many years but just the other day tried this stupid blue mic cable that was a store giveaway, and it cured the dullness and unpleasant boomy bass in a mic I was using. I guess my position is that you do...
